Ok, I just can't decide so I am calling on you guys for help. When is the ideal date for the HAMB drags for you guys? At least you can narrow it down and I can take a few dates to the track and WZ Junk... What you fellas think?

How about just keeping it the same as last year, after speed week? Seemed to work good last year...yeah, it was hot, but it's always hot in the summer. Rather be hot than raining...just my $.02.

Speed Week in B'ville starts the weekend of Aug 13th/14th so the 21st is the Sat after Speed Week just like last year.

I believe Aug. 21st is the same date as Bonneville Speed Week.
Last year the drags were the week-end after, which was
perfect for those returning from the salt.

So I vote for after Bonneville.

I like the Saturday after Speedweek. That way the East coast guys that go to the salt can stop at the HAMB Drags on the way home and the California & NorthWest guys can have something to drive to on the way to the mid-west for the drags. And the weather is HOT, but not alot of rain in the middle of August. Rain is bad and un-predictable in the mid-west in the summer.

Joplin, MO to Denver, CO is 700 miles. If you can't do 700 miles home on Sunday and make it to school on Monday, you've got no business attending. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We drove 14 hours home on Sunday and was at work on Monday morning at 8:30am.

If it's important to you, you will attend, no matter what the date.

Not ragging on anyone in particular but Denise is right. We are 8 months out, put $5 a week into a jar and money is not an issue. Lots of us work on Mondays, just drive it all on Sunday. I am 12 hours from Bonneville and 14 Hours from Mokan. I plan on doing em both and working a full week in between. Lots of folks put off trips because it seems like a large hurdle. The trick is to say phucket and just make it happen! I know I wont hit all the cool events I would like. I know we will never get a date that is perfect for everyone. But the HAMB Drags is worth making an effort for. Even if you have to drive a late model!!! At least you can see something that is rather cool.

Hmmm my education and the possiblity of losing a class that I can't make up for two years because of the way the program is set up or going to a drag race which I won't be racing in. Which is more important... I'll have to think about that one.

You are right. I really don't have any business attending it. Some things are more important. I just feel like a heel sticking Tman with doing all the food again. And it would not be right for the my needs to be put in front of anyone elses. Not that Ryan would do that thank God. So it doesn't matter when the latest I could make it out there would be. I just have a shitload that I need to get done in august part of that being lining up an internship, which I have to have, and a new job before school starts. (Main reason for wanting late may or june)

I don't want to seem bitchy about it. Its just bad timing for me is all.

i just wanted to clarify my earlier post. i don't really have anything against aug. (self employed now so i get all the personal time i can afford) i just heard rumblings that the heat was contributing to higher times. i won't be racing anyway, just hanging out. but if we do set it in the hotter months maybe some early morning runs or evening runs might be in order for those serious about getting their best times. personally i think it will be fun morning noon or night / aug. feb. or whenever. i'll be there.

even though i mentioned the heat earlier, my one true beef was the non HAMB cars and late models. i might start a fire storm here (i'm not trying to be a snob, i promise) but i would like to see it a true HAMB event with the only late model exception being Jerry Cochran, he can race a big wheel tri-cycle for all i care.

as i remember all the local / non-HAMBers that showed last year were on the up and up, and had some nice cars.... but i could see it getting out of hand. you know... they tell two friends, and they tell two friends, and they tell the local import club and then we're up to our eyeballs in front wheel slicks and lap top co-drivers. i just like the idea of a "nostalgia drag". know what i mean? was i the only one that felt that way? am i just being reactionary?

I will take your thoughts one step further though, I'm for no late models on the property at all. They ruin the backdrop of the photos in my opinion. June 5th weekend is the York bash with the So-What crowd, and the new Billetproof-North, which will probley keep any of those guys from attending.

June 12th weekend is GG Indy which would keep ALOT of the northen midwest folks from attending. Need a weekend where theres not a huge regular event already planned.

Probley not, as I just had an $4,700 estimate for a new roof for my home http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif One of my party guests on Saturday nite noticed water in a lite fixture on my ceiling by my front door. I knew it was coming but I've just been wanting to get a few major things done on Big Olds before I tackled the roof. Oh well, no putting it off now. I'm afraid my cruzn for the upcoming season will have to be curtailed a bit and York will be one that I'll probley have to cut along with Springfield, MO and BTT50's http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Unless I have a couple of really good art shows in the spring, I can't see how I can do it all. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

As far as school goes, it should come first in anyones book, whether your attending or teaching. Same goes for jobs and family. All that should come before a car event, no matter how cool the event is, it should be second to lifes other stuff.

There are events all through the summer.
Picking a date that does not conflict with some of them is impossible.

The one contributing factor is picking a date that is open at the track.
In that light, I would suggest contacting Carl to find a date that is available, then go for it.

Any one of us will pick the event that is most important to him or her.

What ever the date for the HAMB drags, I am there.

August is fine it seemed to work last year. Id rather take a chance on running in the heat, then having it moved up and it pissing on us and not running at all. Either way Ill be there.

Do we have an idea yet? I got a vacation request notice from the boss man, and would like to tell him when... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Don't matter if it's approved, I'm gonna be there!

A quote from Mike Bishop, AV8, on another thread that I thought I'd stick here incase Ryan is keeping track of how many want what dates and the exciting possiblities that could happen IF the drags are held the weekend after Speed Week.

[ QUOTE ]
If the HAMB drags are the weekend after Speed Week it's entirely possible that the Pacers roadster could be there. Gene Gilmore, who has ramrodded the restoration and has stewardship of the car will be at Bonneville with the Tardel-McKenzie crew, as will several others who are old Pacers.

BTW, the roadster is not likely to equal its early performance. The new motor isn't nearly as crafty as the old one. In fact it's very close to being a stone-stock 327. It will be run on alcohol, however. Still, the BFD will probably kick its ass.

FWIW, I plan on attending the HAMB drags if they are the weekend at the end of Speed Week. I'll have my own transportation this year and can hang out whenever, wherever. and with whomever I want! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I certainly don't want to wish the summer away but August can't get here soon enough for me http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey my topless cruisin friend. Can I assume that you want to do the HAMB Drags on the way back from Wendover? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I'm good with that date, just seems so far off.

August sounds best to me. Do I get to run my '65, or is '64 going to be the Cut-off again?
