Three shots from Tuesday, Feb 17th, 2004. Worked on putting in an entirely new wiring harness. Also spent a lot of time scratching our heads on how to make headers clear the steering box on the drivers side. If anyone has some junk SBC stock REAR DUMP style headers, I'm positive Mark could use 'em!

Did the wiring get done?
Elrod
02-25-2004, 11:39 AM
The wiring is all in the car. We tried for about an hour cranking the car to get it to fire. We finally found out that when the ignition switch in just clicked to on, we have power to the coil, and the points fire, but when you turn the key to engage the starter, power to the coil is cut, and the points don't fire while the motor is turning over. Temporary solution was to put a jumper wire directly to the coil, so that we could crank the motor, and the coil would have power to spark.
This is when the BALLS OF FIRE began. Damn, that starter fluid makes for a great light show. I took some small video clips with my still camera, but don't know of a place to host them. Here are some stills from the video.
The guy with the striped Beenie is MarkX. Here he's wedging the throttle open.

There is supposed to be a wire from the starter solenoid to the + side of the coil. That was missing and that is why there was no spark when cranking.

thanks for the info about the board. as far as the show just was wondering if the kind of car i am building would fit in . not that i really care about fitting in, just curious about the style. 1960 cadillac 4 door, satin two tone, air bags, 22 inch white walls
Revhead
02-27-2004, 01:54 AM
they make 22 inch white walls?!
ive never seen a set, but i found a old tire shop that had a old school tire cutter for whitewalls. if it works on 15 inch tires it should work on 22s. but i will be practicing on some used ones first.
I'm also trying to come up with some more ideas for the caddy. fish tail flame thrower pipes, custom cut glass for a future chop top.

OK....UPDATE.......
well last week we all(THEM) installed my intake and carb and dist. and fired that sucker up ....... some of you may have seen the firey video clip. ......Well, what you didnt see was the "milk-shake" "mocha-latte" that we made http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif *****DO NOT**** i repeat ****DO NOT*** ever buy a "Power-Plus" intake manifold.........****JUNK***** the damn thing was warped and dumped all kinds of water into the engine TWICE!!!! beautiful intake ...but junk.... anyway ... after fearing a cracked block I thought it was worth a shot with a Name-Brand manifold...... and viola no more leaks .....
So, now all thats left is my front disc kit and dropped uprights and master cyl. and plumb the brakes...... its coming down to the wire.........
Elrod

Another update. We put the dropped uprights on the car and now it is sitting right. I'm sure Mark wouldn't mind it going even lower, but not before the Round-Up.
Last Tuesday, the brake lines were laid in place, the brake booster was put into the firewall, Mark and Eric finished up the brake pedal. Should be taking it around the block by the end of this week.

At least now we know what color you need to paint it.....
And you need to put fake blood in the radiator... that way when it overheats once a month... well you know.....

Hey! That thing come with rockers, floor and wheelwells from the factory? Must be the delux model! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I always thought rockers and wheelwells were customizer touches on early Chebbys! I keep hoping to find a fleetline with rockers and floor but them delux models are scairce around here. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Keep wanting a 4 on the floor but all I find is 4door, no floor! Just not quite the same thing http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Excellent work guys.
