Im planning on running 53 f100 brakes and want that tall skinny look for the 31 Arpu im doing-want to know what years had 5X5 1/2" pattern 16 wheels-and what widths they were-this will help in my quest....still not sure of my favorite colour http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

1940-48 had sixteen inch solids with the 5 on 5.5 pattern. Earlier wheels were two piece "wide fives." There were some late-Ford pattern sixteens made for the '49 Fords, from what I hear, but most were fifteens.

G'day Squire, 1940 Ford had those I believe, hard to get tho, you might have to kill a restorer to get some http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif or convince them you're restoring or building a " special "
Those guys from the early ford club, ha ha. I just had a thought, Colin Bates had some, do you have his no?

Squire, his business is called Colin Bates Custom Automotive Chassis Engineering in Croydon, you must have heard of him? don't know if it's ok to put a phone number here, but he's in the yellow pages, give him a ring, tell him I said hello. He's a VERY knowledgable guy with early Fords. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was wondering what would be the acceptable minimum for these wheels as well. Two of the wheels I have are pitted, particularly on the face, many Canadian winters in the bush http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif I have repaired steel (MC swingarm) before using brass rod, is this OK ... or strictly cosmetic & has no structural value? The wheels sure seem to have alot of meat on them & with the rariety, are they a fixer up? I also want to run Ford 16"'s (5.5) but wonder about the reality of this when the prairie junkyards are pretty sparse. Thanks.

16" were standard on the 6 cyl Mainline right thru 1953.
While many owners opted for the 6.70x15 Ive seen several 6.00x16 including a 53 that was junked last year here in town.

Thors list is fair, but omits pickups. My grandfathers 55 Ford p/u had 16' wheels Also I think 34 had 17 inch
