Does anyone have any pictures or advice on how to make a home made rear tranny mount? Advice as to what it needs to be, how strong, what type of materials it needs, etc. Can I use a hockey puck or is it not rubbery enough. I'm getting really sick of this project. I measure, I mock up, but when I get down to install it it won't line up with the holes in the back of the tranny.
The car is a 55 Fairlane which now has a three speed manual tranny from a 67 Ranchero. Any suggestions or ideas. I think I've overthought the solution to this problem, and I'm getting really pissed off.

Howdy Mr Matic,
No pics, but on the 40' I just used a piece of c channel bolted to either side of the frame. Im assuming that your talkin about the structural part? On the coupe I used 2"x2" tube, put a little step down in the middle and I welded it to the frame. It doesn't have to be real strong. It's not taking much if any torque, assuming your motor mounts are doing there job. Whatcha got layin around the shop to work with?

I have NOTHING lying around the "shop." In fact I have no shop. All I have are tools, no welder, yet. That is one reason I want ONE of my cars to cooperate with me, so I can go pick one up.
No, I'm not even talking about structural. There is a crossmember that goes under the tranny, with the original tranny, it had a little plate with rubber molded to it that the tranny rested on which bolted to that crossmember. It was oriented toward the rear of the car. A large clamp went around the plate and bolts that went through the clamp and threaded into the holes on the tranny. The new tranny pad sits in front of that crossmember by about 1.5- 2" or so. All I need to know is what is the minimum size steel that should be used and how others would tackle this, as I am apparently the dumbest guy on the HAMB.
I took the rubber off of that plate, probably stupid, but that was the ONLY piece of thickish steel I had lying around. I contemplated cutting the bumper of my 83 Chevy just for some steel to make a plate. Anyway, the above clamp is too small for this tranny which has much wider mount holes.
If Hockey puck material is not too hard, I think I'd be all set.

got an old bias ply tyre lying around?cut four rectangles the size you need out of the tread,(with a hacksaw)drill holes thru and mount!makes great tranny mount rubber, and just use less or more pads to adjust the height.softer than a hockey puck, but hard enough.
rough but it works!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Not sure if this will help, but....
I had a 59 Ranchero and stuck a 67 Mustang GT 390 engine in it.
No problems there as the 59 motor mounts worked fine.
(The Chero originally came with a 352.)
The trans was one of Ford's all-synchro three speeds.
I got a 1/2" thick piece of aluminum about 4" wide and cut it long enough to span from the trans mount pad to the original rubber pad the 352's auto trans used.
Drilled four holes to match the trans pad and the rubber mount, bolted it together and it worked fine for a long time.
3/8" steel would work fine for a setup like this.
