carson top plans????

does anyone know of or have any plans or pictures on how to build a carson top. I am taking the roof of off one of my 49 mercs . Its a 4 door but i have a set of 2 door doors for it. Want to make a convertable from this one .My other 2 cars are 2 door cars and i will chop one and have the other stock roof custom. anyway,,does anyone have any ideas????--------ray

Leftturn, I see on your starblvd photos that you've done full Merc chassis swaps...that's what I'm doin. I need to see your pics of the firewall area (inside and out) and also details of the door jamb/frame/floor area if ya got any, I'd appreciate it. You could send them to kevsho2000@yahoo.com

I've nevcer done a carson, but I've seen one in person...the R/C article comes close to what I saw, and is relatively simple to duplicate. Just take patience.

great articles. looks not that hard. looks like my 4 door is goin topless. i'm goin to change the doors to 2 door doors. good thing i'v got a couple of extra sets......bttt

I want to remind you to gusset the hell out of the frame BEFORE you whack the top off since losing structual inregrety will occur and it'll flex like a bear ! I know, I have a glass 'vert on a coupe frame and it still flexes some even with frame gussets,

And use a Bear Claw style captured latch for the door. I have heard stories of doors popping open when you go over RR tracks or big bumps.

this merc is goin on an84 olds 98 frame and floor pan. I will weld it on permanantly before i cut the roof.It wont be for a couple of month cause i have 2 merc coupes to chop first------ray

Lftturn-- I'd be interested in any photos of the swap, also. Just got a 86 olds that I'm doing the same type of swap to my plymouth with and pics always help.

hahahaha...looks easy! That was my first impression too when I changed my 40 4 dr. sedan to a 2 dr carson topped car. Of course I did it by myself at home...but the final outcome was definately worth all the work.
I can't even find a pic on this new computer...wife's been messing with it...anyway...email me if you have specific questions that I may be able to help with. custmf100@aol.com
