A friend just gave me an old 10,000 rpm Sun tach. I need to know if it requires a seperate sender. On the back of the tach it says: Sun Electric Co. Model FZ108N 12V Neg Ground. 8 cyl. It has connections that say Ignition switch...Distributor....Ground. It also has a small black wire coming out near the top of the back that I presume is for the light. This is not a SUN SUPER TACH, it is older than that. It also came with a chrome metal cup and a mounting bracket that is flat on the bottom-maybe for top of dash or console mount- not curved for a steering column. Did old 409s or anything come with an aftermarket tach?thanks, Dale

Sounds like it's an old Sun 1 piece no transmitter was required.

Sounds like you are gonna need a eb-9a transmitter.

If those wires are marked "ignition switch, distributor and ground" that's a one-piece tach. No sender necessary.

As far ar I know, most of the tachs installed in 409-equipped performance cars at the factory were Sun two-piece units and they didn't read up to 10,000 RPM.

thanks for the info. It seems I have a stand alone tach according to the muscle car tach web page. Thats great as it will fit right in with the early 60s theme My son is using for his next project--33 ford pickup--MOON STYLE.

If your tac is a FZ series I believe it looks like this correct? I believe the FZ series do take a transmitter. They are the earlier style tach.

Yes, You are right, that is exactly how mine looks on the back. Oh well I guess I will have to find us a transmitter at charlotte next weekend. Will the transmitter type tachs work with an HEI type electronic distributor? Thanks for the pic. Dale

I have never seen a 10grand Sun tach that needed the box.
