Who has some cool photos of these roadsters? I saw them at Petersens but it would be cool to see them on the street!

TRJ did a GREAT chapter on the Doane Spencer deuce a couple years ago. If you'd like I can look up the edition # for you? A very beautiful car with a great history. Jason...

Here's a super rare one for ya 4eva.
The doane Spencer is my all time favoriot roadster. I have seen it a few times. It just blows me away how far advanced it was when it was first built.

Here are some links, starting with a Pat Ganahl story on the history of the Doan Spencer 32 in Automobile Quarterly:

Bob McGee:

Ray Brown car from Mart’s site with several tasty others:

The Doane Spencer deuce is probably my all time favorite car. There's just something about it I can't explain. I finally got to see it in the Petersen last year, and I guess it made me a little emotional. The article by Pat Ganahl that is linked above is excellent, and I'd forgotten about it. Thanks for posting the link.
Someday, I'd like to do a semi-clone of it...
Here's a pic of the chassis as restored:

This is kinda off the track a little, but the latest Rod & Custom has an article on a black Deuce roadster that is VERY reminiscent of the Spencer car. It is also one of my all time favourite Hot Rods, as well as the McGee car. I think TRJ also did a feature on the McGee car which (I think) is also owned by Bruce Meyer.
Don't have any pics though.

At the risk of saying what has already been said:
The Doane car is the most original and elegant deuce roadster in hot rod history. Its (relatively high, no dropped axle) stance and forward mounted headlights immediately distinguish it from most other highboys; the re-shaped DuVall windshield and the routing of the exhaust are cool details, and its all-black dress is understated and sinister. It hasn't been shown with its removable hardtop for the last few years, but that's a very cool feature too.
And the most remarkable part -- he did all that stuff without copying anybody else. It's a true original.

Saw the McGee roadster a few months ago at Steve Becks shop and took a few pics. I'll have to dig them up when I get home. To say the car is flawless would be an understatement. Standing right next to the car you can't find a single imperfection. I've heard several people say that the car is over restored. Personally, I never saw it in "the day", but I seriously doubt that it looked quite that nice. Never the less, I'd drive it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
