Ok, what am I doing wrong. When I take, for example, an image that is 106k and resize it with Irfanview, it is actually larger than the pic I started with.......unless I REALLY make it smaller. The 106k file turned into a 125k file........does this on all of them that I do and things I have scanned.......
Why can't anything be simple! :)

are you typing in the KB size on the left side or just clicking on the boxes on the right side....That [RT]s what I do= click on 640X420 -that is about 63KB
I have had a similar problem- every one[color]- I resize ,almost all end up being B&W after resized!

Tell me about it! Flathead, if ya can't tell a girl from a man with a mullet how do we ever expect you to use a computer program?;) :D
I open the picture of choice.
Then to resize/resample
Under SET NEW SIZE, type 640 or 500 in the width box
Make sure pixels is marked below that
Click Okay
If I can do it you can do it!

Did exactly what you said......112k file, rezised to 500 width and it came out 140k...... Crazy stuff I tell ya!
I can eventually get it down there, but it isn't really readable....

Just this week, after using Irfanview for a year and a half (I love it), it started acting up on the resize feature like you indicated. I'd resize way down, and BINGO, it would actually get slightly larger and much blurrier.
Simple fix: Uninstall Irfanview completely, then go to the Irfanview website and download again. Mine works just like it used to now.

thanks!
i found that if i play with the "quality" adjustment when I "save as" i don't lose the size and I can usually get it to the size that'll fit the HAMB in one or two shots....
I'll try what you said...
