View Full Version : Tired of it all...makin changes in projects..............

Rocky

I'm sick of being stretched so thin on time and money, trying to build several different "full-on" projects. I'm guilty of over extending my limited resorces to the point I'm frustrated at getting nothing done on any of them! I found a complete, running, painted, upholstered 41 Poncho coupe at a distress sale price. The guy wants to capitalize on another distress sale of a 57 Safari wagon and needs quick $$$ for it. I made him an offer and he accepted it. I get the car Wednesday and I'm gonna sell the livin shit outa the other projects I have no time or money for. I really need to simplify my life right now and I'm sick of paying rent and storage for parts and cars......I'll post a list of cars and parts for sale on the HAMB classifieds later tonight. Goodby 53 stude..[already sold], 36 chevy pickup, 53 nash and 37 willys pickup..... the 65 chevy pickup or the Rocky Goodtime van will be right behind 'em a little later.....
I'm jazzed about having only one nice, rustfree, running, complete car to keep up...especially a real, live Pontiac bidness coupe.....photos to follow a little later...

Don't know yet....prolly not. Most likely, a chevy pickup buyer would wanna put a chevy motor in it, doncha think?

Now if only I could convince my Dad of that very same thing! AND he just bought another car! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

That Safari didn't happen to be blue and white and come from IN in the last few years did it? The one car I wanted Dad to keep, our '57 Safari, and what does he do? Sells it and keeps some of our other junk. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Er, but how long before the Poncho becomes another unfinished, money guzzling, space taking project, and something else great comes along at a great price? Sound familiar? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Me? I got no room for my first project, let alone a second http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Man rocky, thats a big step and probably a tough one. I am sure having all the projects started to eat at you.. This type of shit will drive you crazy thinking about it all the time...With that said, you may want to keep the 36 pickup so you can tinker (relieve stress) since the Poncho is a done car... I agree with selling the rest, with the luck you have in finding cars (or they find you) you will find others when the time is right...

What Boones just said makes sense. Anybody want all my shit at my place so I can go buy me a nice restored '59 Impala coupe?! I need to get rid of the '60 Elky, '55 Chevy truck, and the '59 Impala convertible so I can get a fresh start too... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif And don't think I am not kidding.

Good for you Rocky, but I think you might be starting a trend. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif(How much for the 59 Droptop Travis?) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I know the feeling of working on too many projects and only getting a tiny bit of work done on each. NOTHING gets done!

I was in that same situation with other peoples cars.
Thats why today it's one at a time and they get done http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Boones.......36 pickup goes. They'll be plenty of tinkering to do on any 1941 car. Plans are for a lowering, clean steelies and a home grown intake, exhaust for the flathead 6 popper. No subframe, no quickchange rear end, no coilovers. Just a few subtle improvements [like a 3.23 3rd member from a 55-56 poncho] and fresh paint, be it shiny or satin...nothing radical....

Rocky, sounds like you have made up your mind.. I do not remember what a 41 Pontiac looks like...any pics yet

I know what your saying, Rocky. I'm reaching that point where one or two of my Ponchos' gotta go. I have no room to work- just collect.

At least you waited a few days after New Year's to make this resolution. If you posted this Jan.1 I wouldn't have believed you.

Good luck with your new Poncho. When are you going to have pics for us?

i see this all the time, a guy gets too much stuff going and nothing seams to get done..and they get frustrated.

i don't have the space or the pactience to have 3-4-5-6 0r more projects like some of you guys do. i limit myself to (2) two projects at a time..that way you always have something to work on and you can see progress ,keeps you fired up... you can focus all your spare time , money , talent on them...and you get them done faster! my theory on hot rods is quality over quanity. rocky, my opinion is sell all except the `36 chevy Pu project and dump the procedes of the sales into it

Damn....you finally did it. Maybe that's what I need to do...get rid of the '64 Buick wagon, the '61 bubbletop that I've had since '97 and done nothing to, the '62 Invicta in primer...the '41 pickup project, the '66 Ford.... Gonna have to go sit in the shop and think about this...oh, congratulations...I think..you've been wanting one of the Ponchos for a while, haven't you?

I think a clean break is best....sell it all, sounds like you need a mental health break... I'm crakin 60 and I been there a couple times and have known many others too..some just did what your gonna do and as far as I know they went on with one car (running) and just keep upgrading and driving and havin a great time ..I know many others who still have the shop so full of dreams and stuff just too damn good to throw away and many of them still never seem to have a driver cause their always broke from collecting for 5 or 6 parts projects, too bad, sometimes cause if us guys, and I include myself, would quit hoggin all the shit we keep more guys might git the stuff on the road....Shit I must be sick or something I can't seem to part with anything..what if I live forever? this could be my hell!!!! But if I can still play with my stuff it might help me live till I'm 90...sell it...uh..I don't know like quiting smokin or sex.....I dunno Rocky better keep somthing in case you get sick.....fatchuk

You are a better man than me Rocky,
I have a lot of projects too, but I NEED them all...
Even the ones I have not touched for a couple of years...

ONE project at a time. No discussion.

Running, driving cars are another story. You are allowed to have up to eleven of them.

PS. I think you should hang on to the 65 truck or the Goodtime van. At least you will have a parts hauler when you decide you CAN'T FUCKING STAND that 6 banger anymore and have to stuff it full of hard hammering V-8 PONTIAC.

Good luck, -Abone.

Rocky
01-05-2004, 10:08 PM
Oh, I'll keep either the Goodtime van or the pickup. Gotta have something to haul all that shit in the storage garage to the next swapmeet. It's goin too, along with the storage garage. I'm tired of paying storage on shit that I just do not need! The Porsche will go if I get some decent money for it but if not, I really need a winter beater. That Porsche goes pretty good in the snow where the van is positively helpless. Porsche heaters kick ass too.
I'm gonna compile a list of stuff to sell and put prices on each item..will post it in the classifieds as soon as I get the list done....

I might even get to drive this year. Not finished but running. I am realy looking forward to that. John

Nice move,I to have been finding, buying and hoarding for too long, and have thought hard the last year,My plan is to trade off some projects to those willing and capable to get a few of my projects further along than I can,all the while thinning my herd, and getting rollers at the least,to have fun with and upgrade to the point where I have my few cars that I really want,Full fendered coupe,59 camino, and a late sixties mullet muscle..I can always find more stuff,I just need some land so I'm not paying storage on three places, and getting nothing done.Has it really been three years already?I could have bought a farm by now!!!

Rocky, I don't know what to say. Up until now you have been DA MAN. I'm going to have to sit back and see how this all shakes out. If you can really do this I think there are others on this board who might follow suit (is there hope for me?) Just remember you are now under the microscope so to speak. One misstep and "WE'VE GOTCHA". Hope it works out like you want. Just think we could be looking at a new self help program headed by our own DR. ROCKY. hahaha!!!
