This is my first time actually posting to this site, I wish it was on a better note... I have a '57 Ranchero, mild custom, but this is reguarding my friend Dave's car that was stolen late last night here in Los Angeles.
Its a White '39 Chevy. Last seen parked at his house in the Echo Park neighborhood. I have added a link to a picture of his car. If you can be of any help with information regarding this car please contact me, Dave (discordia@earthlink.net) or call the police...all information will be confidential.

Thank you all for your help!

I hate to say it but you might want to call all the Lowrider/Bomb shops in So-Cal area.........and tell them there is a reward
Glad to see you made it over here. Hopefully someone will be able to help. Welcome and good luck...

Is this the same M'Lynn of Dara and M'Lynn fame... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
In any event... That car is definately headed to a low-rider shop right now. There are lots of shops in Echo Park to canvas. Hope the reward thing works but I know some shops around here that have containers waiting for them to ship completed lowriders over seas. They still sell for way more than you could buy another 39 4-door for.
Maybe it was just a joy-rider? Good luck!

Hell, I'll take the heat for it anyway. It got posted on one of the Yahoo lists I'm on. And I sent them over here. I figured with as cool and helpful as this community is maybe we could help. And you know the whole karma thing...

Yea Flat, death penalty. Only problem no one gets caught. Damn near impossible to relocate a car after its stolen and torn apart. A friend of mine's son got his 61 Impala convertible stolen right out from the sandblasting shop where it was at. Guys cut open gate moved several cars just to get to the 61. Long gone now. Satin

From what I understand the 39 Chevy is practically the "holy grail" for lowrider guys, so I'd say that checking out lowrider shops & getting the word out is a good idea.
A decent sized reward might get someone talking.

That thing will be metalflake brown and sitting on daytons by the weekend if you dont get it back in 24 hours . That sucks that it was stolen but in that hood , I dont see you getting it back unless some dipshit gets caught driving it to the chopshop on accident . I had my car stolen a few years ago , and saw the kid casing it . I was lucky that he pulled up into an ally that a good friend of mine lived in , otherwise I would have never seen it again . GOod luck to you ! I hope something breaks and you get lucky .

Damn that sucks. I've known Dave (aka Clean) about 4 years thru the movie industry. Nicest guy in the business. This was his first car and his daily driver, that he drove out from Texas. I will pass this around my work and my buddy's work. Let Clean know that Eric at Panavison will do what he can to help him. Good luck!

I agree the car is probably headed for a lowrider chop shop of some kind, I warned him when he said he was moving to that neighborhood with that car in particular, but I figured getting the word out there as quickly as possible couln't hurt.

Not that it is TRADITIONAL, but in SEP of 03 there was an attempted theft on my buddy's 79 Z-28. It was in a Meijer parking lot (he was in there for like 20 mins) and they busted the hell outta the steering column, but someone musta scared 'em off, cuz they didn't get it.
Funny thing is... he'd lost the key, but as long as you didn't turn it back to "lock", you didn't need the key to start it! If the idiots would've just tried to turn the tumbler it would've fired right up and been LONG GONE!!!
Thank god for dumb people!!!

Cuvo Babi-doll...
Tell him to check Frog Town eh?...
But if it's there.... Leave it holmes!
Seriusly though... Tell him to be carefull if he checks out some of those low-rider places around there. 99% of them are cool as long as your cool but there are some that you just want to pass on. I've walked into some shit looking for old cars around there.

There is nothing I hate more than some lazy person who does not want to do the work to get what they want. That feeling you get in your stomach when you walk outside and notice that something of yours is missing really sucks. I feel for you. Good luck with the search and I will let you know if anything comes up my way.

From what I can remember, the car is pretty much plain. It did have a Nova front clip in it and I think a 350 under the hood.

here is all the detail info that I have on the car:
the paint job was white and basically in good condition although there was some paint warped and peeling around the gas door
the front end was out of a 69 Nova and the rear was from a 77 Nova with 2" lowering blocks and air shocks.
the engine was a 250 straight 6 also out of a 77 Nova
tilt steering column with a grant banjo wheel and 39 californa plates.
Thanks again from both Dave and myself for all of your help in trying to get his baby back home where she belongs.
