anybody know what the hell this is? this is said to be the prototype and there were 12 bodies made from fiberglass. it uses alot of Corvair parts and sits on a 56 Chevy frame. it was supposedly done by some GM designer around 1965. anybody ever seen one or know anything about em??

thanks...

Mike

Kinda looks like that Mako Shark corvette almost... at least, it looks like ti got designs from it. That might be tough... I'd check a book store and thumb through some concept car books

If the Barris Batmobile is a custom car the this is also.
If the two AlaKarts and the two Matadors are custom cars them this is also.
I'm not sure at what point a purality of a custom car ceases to be a custom car and becomes a "production car" (There were 13 Ferarri testarosa's with the swept front fenders made by Ferarri and it's generally accepted as a production rather than a one off custom.)
Just because someone has high hopes of selling facimilies, of something, does that automatically make it a named, manufactured automoble or is it still just a "series" of a piece of art work like a series of artist's bronzes?

It looks ironically like the Pontiac Grand Prix based Blackhawk of the 70's to me...Any designer connection there?

Have you aquired it?
It does have some possibilities.
I doubt a GM designer would have drooped the nose like that, so I suspect it has been "wedge cut" at a later date. raising the front end up so the belt line flowed better would help tremndously.
If you're buying it, Bravo!
Would make a cool one-off type custom today!

Hmmm, I think we can fix it. Can't give you a price, just labor and materials.

Robert,
...are you talking about that yard on McNichols?,...I remember a car similar to this one of K.B's sitting on top of their pole, the front clip dissappeared after an ice storm quite a few years ago, then, the rest of it was gone after the yard changed hands about 4-5 years ago. I tried to check on it, but they weren't interested in talking to me about it.

MrGasser, that would be the one, on McNichols and Mound, just down the street from Silverstein's. Remember Silverstein's? I grew up across the street from there and that car was on the pole as long as I can remember. I haven't been down there in a long time.

That could very well be one of the early John Fitch designs out of Lime Rock.....He put the Hot Rod in the early corvairs and built several bodys using the covair chassis,,,,His best know projects were the John Fitch "sprints" along with a couple of other cars....the Phoenix was the last I think.....

A good friend of mine,Fred Pearman worked for him as a design artist and that car looks like the kind of pictures I have seen.....you may have a real piece of history. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifHRP
