...I'm looking for my dads old hot rod.

Ok guys,

You have heard the stories, maybe read them, I think there is one in Street Rodder this month. A guy finds an old car he built 30 or 40 years ago. Well, I want to try to find my dads old hot rod. It was a 1929 roadster, low boy with a suicide front end. He sold it to a gentleman in Michigan named Donny Harold in the late forties or early fifties.. Donny Harold worked, at the time, for a welder in Toledo OH called Recknagle-(spelling guessed). My dads name is Dale Hillebrand. He built the car as a teenager in Moore Park CA around 1948 and drove it across the country to Toledo OH. He traded the car soon after for a 36 Ford Coupe that he put the 29's eng in. I know this is a long shot with the odds in the neighborhood of winning the $155,000,000 Power Ball, but I need to start somewhere. Any connections are greatly appreciated. PM me with any private info. Now the tear jerker to get the ball rolling. My mom, his wife and love of over 50 years died a year and a half ago. He can't seem to find himself. I dont know, I just want to find the car if it is still around. I want to rebuild, or just plain build one with him.

i heard about a car that was in michigan that was supposedly and old ca hot rod in fact a guy i know out here flew to mi to look at it, it was a 29 with sucide perch dropped ax, dont remember what it had for a motor, flattie probely,i thought it was a highboy though on 32 rails ,,,,it might have been in one of the ckdeluxe mags???in the readers rides section??? do you have any other info on your dads to easily identify? maybe an old pic?

yea i have heard storys like that .infact me and my bro found my dads first car he built in high school. its a 68 rs ss camaro were trying to get it from the guy still .were stroing it at our house but he dont wanna sell it yet..one day though well get it and built it for pops.so yes it can happen yoll find it some dday

A cut and paste...

said HAO WELA ...hot rod in hawian.dash was red wood with all toggel
switches.steering coulium was dropped with long "u" bolt band
spacer.head lights were on "l"shaped brackets.i would have to find the
diary i kept for any more info."

Hey I live in moorpark, is it the one in Ventura County. I have a guy I know that specializes in finding cars for people (mostly famous pre-war Hispano-Suizas and custom bodied Rolls and Bentlys) but he certainly knows his shit and which rocks to start turnin' over. I'll talk to him tonight and see if he would be interested in finding a formar local rod. I'll let you know.

Recently i found the remains of one of my old cars. It,s
a 1930 4dr that i had 20 years ago.The car has been parted out and all i,ve got is the complete body but it,s still a strange feeling.One day it will hit the road again.

My father has now tracked down 2 of his old cars (sports cars, not hot rods). One was pretty close to where he'd last seen it in the late 70's, but the other one he sold at Hershey in 1974 and it was sold-on later the same day. He found it in England. The internet is a great thing in the right hands. Good luck.

I am really close to finding the guy who bought it. I'm 98% sure he is still in Michigan. His name is Donald Harold. But I have not made the important calls.
The Internet is a powerful tool when used correctly. Like this board. The camaraderie I see here really impresses me. I am glad to have found this brotherhood.
