What a GREAT day! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
I drove down to Indianapolis yesterday to hook up with Kulturepimp and hang out at the Automotive HammerArt openhouse/car show/party! I got there plenty early...and helped push a few cars around a generally got in the way for a while as set-up was going on. Met Kulturpimp, (Who could pass for Dale Earnhardt Jr from a distance!), Denny, Jim and ummm...the kid with the Escort and the bottle rockets! (Sorry, forgot your name!)
Great folks, cool shop, neat stuff to see....and an excellent turn-out later in the day. I brought four rolls of film and could easily have burned through tripple taht amount! Of course...being a dork and locking my keys in the car with my last roll of film didn't help, either! Master Fabricator Denny whipped up a killer Slim Jim out of a welding rod, and it got passed around until one very cool dude got the door unlocked! What a dumbass I am! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Shot the last roll of film in the dark...hoping for the best...we shall see!!
(Film is being developed, and I will post LOTS of pics when I get them...probably Tuesday or Wednesday)
There were two pots of chilli brewin' out back o'the shop when I arrived...one HUGE pot of "normal" chilli, and one bubbling cauldron of "fuel injected' stuff that I stayed away fro...saw Kulturepimp turn red just giving it a stir!! I had two bowls of the "normal" stuff...excellent...and I'm not even a big chilli fan!
Free beer was also on the flow from a couple of kegs...and that helped to create the only minor snag at the event...free beer, free chilli...and one toilet! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif You sometimes had to wait in line, but it was cool...you meet alot of nice folks that way!
Then there were the cars...no way I could have photographed ALL of the worthy candidates, but I did my best! The rods and kustoms kept rolling in and out of the place all the time...and I had all I could do to try and get a close look at my very favorites!
There was Kulturepimp's neat-o truck, I just HAD to see it in person, and even though he had it partially torn down for some refinements, it was a killer ride! Lots of neat little ideas going on with that truck...I like the new bed sides he's making and the recessed tail light idea he showed me. The side windows on the 38 cab are mail-slot thin, but the laid back winshield angle keeps the front opening at a reasonable height...cool! I got several pics of this beast...I'll show 'em wheb I get 'em!
Then, there was all sorts of great rides that showed up...a sweet old Plymouth surf wagon, a bad-ass cut-down Dodge pickup with a dual quad 413 big block Mopar in it, a T-bucket running 429/460 Ford power, a really cool four door rod that I went back to examine several times, various wicked flathead powered rides, and so many more. I'll wait for the pictures to further elaborate on the rest, but trust me...you WILL be impressed! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
The trip was great...and gas is like 30 cents cheaper per gallon in Indy than it is in Detroit, too! Not that it mattered a whole lot...I calculated 35 miles to the gallon on the way down...gotta love them little Chevy (Suzuki) buzz-bombs!!!
Met a few HAMBers there as well...BDrake and a a couple others (yeah, I forgot there names already!). I'm a dork!
Hey, Kulturepimp...thanks a billion for the hospitality, fun, food, and offer to crash at your pad! I ended up driving home anyway...couldn't find ya in the darkened crowd to say goodbye...but extend my personal thanks to Denny, Jim and the rest of the crew that put this gig together...it was awesome! I'll be back next year for sure! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
