Well my "latest" problem is my 2nd gear is gone. It came on slowly. Seeming to slide into 2nd, not really shifting. Felt kinda like a clutch spinning. Then when cruising on the highway in 2nd it just kinda lost its grip and spun. It would shift into 2nd, but the RPMs were climing and the car wasn't moving. Now it won't even shift into 2nd. I'm guessing that its the band? I don't know much about trannys so I could be talking out of my ass. Is there some kind of adjustment to this? Or do I need a rebuild now?

why not just swap it for a turbo 350,they're cheap and easy to find and shouldn't be too much work to install, plus an extra gear is nice.If originality isn't a concern i'd go with a turbo 350!Just my 2 cents!

2nd gear in a powerglide ( iron or aluminum ) is not a band. It is a clutch pack.

simple tranny to O-Haul

Depending on the vehicle year,,, a T-350 may bolt in easy.

My '56 chev powerglide crapped out only in reverse. Won't move in reverse but works in all forward gears. Does this sound like a band to you? Local repair places want $1200 plus core for a rebuild. Seems like a lot. Thanks
