A customer of mine has an old hopped-up model a motor that I might be able to get in trade/partial payment for his upholstery. I don't know how much it's worth and I get the idea he doesn't know either. It's got some speed goodies (Zephyr intake w/ 2 97's, and an aftermarket head- don't remember the brand.) The thing hasn't been running in a loooong time and nobody knows if the internals are stock or hopped-up.
My customer is also a buddy and fellow club-member so it's not like we're trying to rip each other off, I'm just wondering what a fair dollar value might be. Any thoughts?
sounds cool sean
(dude got yer message today that sounds fine ill send it off asap)
do you have any pics of this banger motor?
wana see it...

This is a rough estimate, but somewhere between $400 and $1000 depending on internal condition and what's been done to it. The manifold with GOOD, and I mean perfect, 97s should go for about $3-400 by itself. I seem to be able to buy stock used or "original" A engines for $2-300 complete.
Knowing what the head is would tell us more. There are more crappy Flatheads out there than good ones.
The Zephyr manifold is decent, I have one on my B in the Modified. The same thing shows up with other names on them too...
Ansen, Burns, etc.
Hope this helps, 'course it's just my opinion!

If you have a car to put it in grab it. I love bangers. There is an A coupe on E bay with a hopped up banger that looks great...

If the head is a simmons super power head, I am interested in buying the head alone. Mostly for sentimental reasons. That Simmons head is made by Chrysler for Model A fords. Being as how I own a Plymouth and A Ford, I would like to get that head!
I would safely say that a high compression head is worth $150-$300 and the zepher intake alone just went for $160 on ebay. If the 97s are good, probably would be a $400 intake and carb setup. So, theres $600 worth of goods without even taking the engine into account.

Thanks for the replies. I found out the head is a Winfield, but I don't know anything about internal condition... the motor is in Louisiana so it's not something I can check out easily.
