View Full Version : Mother said I should get out more...Re-introduction
The Original Big Daddy

So here it goes. Since I have been lurkin for the past few years, I figure it's time to get greasy again.
I have been hanging with The Jalopy Journal for years, even before the HAMB came about. It was my connection to the hot rod world...speaking my language and not looking like billet rods and gold chainers. I will admit that back in the day I liked the early Boyd and Lil’ John rods, but I think because they were different and represented some new thinking. Of course like everything, they get overdone and become commonplace, losing their uniqueness. As a gearhead, I can appreciate good workmanship and creativity on any type of car, but my style is the traditional hot rod and custom.
I grew up in the SF Bay area and had the pleasure of hanging around the shops of Rich Zocchi, Frank DeRosa, and striper Frank Mills. We would religiously hit the Cow Palace and the OAKLAND Roadster show.
Now living in Sacramento, life is busy with work and kids but I am trying to get more active again. While I got no ride now, I am a rodder at heart and it is only time before my garage is once again filled with primered tin.
So heres my story:
Current Ride:
Chevy ext cab pickup (plans call for 17" Halibrand Kidney Beans painted, roll pan, dechrome and slammed). I want a Bonneville inspired pickup. It's my daily driver.
Past Rides:
1951 Chevy "woody" wagon
1937 White Yellowstone Park Bus
1951 Merc 2-door w/chopped top (did myself!)
1946 Ford Sedan Delivery
Future Rides/Projects (the DREAM projects):
1933/34 Ford 3 window coupe Bonneville style with major chop, rounded nose, full belly pans, built flathead. Inspired by the SOCAL coupe, Pierson Bros and SuperBell Jim Ewing coupes.
HD Bobber - Old school bike built in the hot rod tradition
Favorite Hot Rod:
Doane Spencer roadster, SOCAL coupe.
Favorite Custom:
Clif Inman’s 57(?)Chrysler, Hirohata Merc, Matrangas(?) 40 Ford
Favorite Bikes:
Anything built by Young Choppers, Salinas Boys.
Grease Hair: No (and no blow dryer!)
Tattoos: One...finally figured out a design and Brent at Forever Tattoos did an incredible job of incorporating the flying eyeball with pin striping. Working on a design for my next one.
That's it for now...thought I would take the time for a proper intro and get back into the mix! I am anxiously awaiting my HAMB calendar, it looks very cool!

I think I have a solution. In respect to Bigdaddy, who has been an recent active member, I have changed my name to The Original Big Daddy. I get to keep the essence of my name, Bigdaddy keeps his.
In response to your question about my activity...yes, I have been inactive for a while, lurkin but not postin. I was active way back when the board began but slowed down over time. Since I was missin the action, New Years was a good time to get back into it.
I hope this will resolve the name stuff...if not, lemme know if you have any other ideas. Since I am "re-new" and people probably don't remember me, I can handle a name change.

let me guess, when you signed on you tried for Big Daddy, but couldn't get it? wonder why?
(og) Big Daddy may be lame, but you're being a dick. he was registered first from what i see.
not that it matters cause you BOTH probably stole the name from the same guy.

The Original Big Daddy

For f*!ks sake...I come back to the board to hang out with people who share a common interest in tradional hot rods and get shit for a goddamn nickname. First, a guy who registers AFTER me, can't get the name Big Daddy cuz its taken (by me) and so he brilliantly uses the name Bigdaddy and then wants ME to change my name.
Second, its a "F"ing nick name. Obviously I am not either the Big Daddy Roth nor Big Daddy Don Garlits. For that matter I am not Adam Sandler in the movie Big Daddy, not the guy who brews Big Daddy beer and I am not the band Big Daddy.
I am just a guy whose family started calling him Big Daddy. Ironically, I am a daddy and I am big so I think the name is appropriate.
We could probably go through the member list and pick apart every freakin name on the list. It just a goddamn nickname people.
-Just a called called Big Daddy

JEEZUZ!!! it a freakin name on a message board....enough with the pissin contest
Yikes dude! If you know anything about this board it's that people are going to test you and give you some good natured ribbing! It's to see how thick-skinned you are. If your soft...they don't stop.
And for the record...I was talking to Buick59...the post ABOVE mine...and the smiley face means I was just JOKINGLY pointing out that there were more than one famous "Big Daddys".....So I guess that could be construed as me being on YOUR side!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It's cool...I love to joke as much as the next guy but it felt like it was going beyond. And I was thinkin that it was pretty fuckin stupid over a screen name. In my reply you will notice my subtle and dry humor, the other Big Daddy cracks.
Alrighty then...that all being said, I am now officially open for ribbins, cracks, comments, slander, cutdowns, slams, bitch slaps and beat downs.
-The guy formally know as Big Daddy, now known as The Original Big Daddy, not to be confused with Bigdaddy, Big Daddy Don Garlits or Big Daddy Ed Roth.
