my boss has a real nice m21 muncie 4 speed all rebuilt. and a small block 400 that needs a rebuild. i asked him how much and he said $400 takes all. o and the muncie has a hurst shifter with it too and bellhousing and clutch and flywheel. motor runs just smokes a little. i think its a hell of a deal i seen the m21's go for 800 on ebay...

I paid that much just for my Muncie...minus the shifter, bellhousing, clutch, and a sbc core.

Rebuild that 400 (don't forget the steamhole BS with the siamese bores) and tell everyone to get bent when they give you a the SBC bad rap. I hear ya can rework them bad boys beyond the 406 mark that was set as the limit in the early days...something in the line of 427 or bigger SB?

Grab it...you will not regret it.

the biggest sbc i've seen was a 460. it was all aluminum. the biggest steel block one i've seen was 440. as far as the muncie/400 deal. i think your boss is a price gouging sob. thats a redicules price. now, since your not buying them can i get his number? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifall kidding aside thats a hell of a buy. the tranmission is worth more than that. and 400 are getting hard to find, atleast in my area anyway.

Biggest motor you'll get out of a factory 400 block is a 415. Any more stroke than that and you'll end up grinding into the water jackets. Anything larger needs an aftermarket block (big money!). I know cuz I wanted to stroke my 406 this season, but it's not worth the time or money to gain 9 cubic inches!
