View Full Version : shoebox disc brakes?
Who has put discs on the front of their shoebox and whose kit did you use? I am considering putting discs on my car and am looking for feedback on different options. Thanks

Dan - I have a Jamco kit that uses modified A-arms (clipped with ball-joint ends welded on) and later model dropped spindles and discs. There was a two-part write up about the swap using Jamco's kit in R&C not too long ago. It's a bit expensive but a really good kit that is a bolt-on.

Also who makes a dual m/c conversion for the '49? Is rebuilding the stock drums and updating to a dual m/c a decent option? Someone told me Fatman makes the m/c conversion but I don't see it listed in their catalog?? Thanks-

I did the disk conversion on my dad's '50 - don't remember who did the kit, but I'm sure it was one of the big companys - ECI, MC Power, etc.
I did the MC conversion myself - there were no kits back then, but I think there is a kit now.
I mounted the MC on the crossmember using some 3" U-channel cut to fit & lined it up with the existing MC. I then gutted the original MC & used a brass fitting in the rear as a bushing for a long (18" cut-down to fit) 3/8" ratchet extension that hooked to the original pedal, ran through the original MC w/fabbed bushings, & to the new dual MC. Worked great & kept the original pedals.
Good Luck!
