well, i was workin in the shop. had my ear plugs in grinding away with the MUDVAYNE cd jambin in the background. well, maybe more than just "jambin". i could hear it clear as day over the grinder even with the ear plugs in. but still, i always shut it down after 9pm and it was guarter till when the cop started flashin his "Rodney King light" in the window. hell i only went out to the shop about 8pm so they must have called as soon as the music came on.

i thought it was actually quite ammusing. the cop even seemed to think it was rediculous that they called about it. i was actually adjusting the volume as he shined his light in so he DID hear it as loud as it was. he said he did'nt care if i turned it up for a good song once in a while, then i told him i always tone it down after 9pm and only do work that makes a very minimum of noise after then.

then he started askin about all the stuff out in the garage that i was workin on and seemed to really dig it. i apologized for him having to come out but he said it was no big deal cause he had nothin to do anyway. i think because it was before 9pm he was reluctant to say anything but i had allready been turning it down when he got there so it was not a big deal. he was just doin his job and to tell the truth i'd rather see him here than the stupid beeeatch that lives behind us. shes NEVER said a nice thing to any of us, just starts right off screamin and bitchin. i don't even know her name cause she was never so polite as to introduce herself when they moved in.

for those who have followed the saga, YES this is the neighbor i have had problems with before. they complain about EVERYTHING. they just moved here from the city and all. i live in the country for a reason. plus, i was here FIRST http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif. this whole thing just cracks me up. they have nothing better to do than be a pain in my ass. oh well, what are ya gonna do??

Some people need something to bitch about and no matter how much you attempt to respect their wishes they will never be happy. unfortunately I think you may be in that situation.
I know I have been there and hence my earlier tirade. I feel for you because it's just a bunch of crap and most of the time no matter what you do it will not be good enough for the gay-bors.
My suggestion is, if this a reoccurring problem, get their fiorst and last names and go to the local magistrate and file harassment charges. A court date will be set and as long as you can bring another neighbor with you that can testify on your behalf you will be set. BTW, hearings at the magistrate are not even close to the stereo typical idea of a court hearing.

Courtesy of RRTers and HAMB gatherer's not so long ago, I got to go to a guys place and check out some cool rod's and rodding material. On the side of his neighbor's garage, it read... D(X'd out)R-on is an Asshole. A funny poke from Don's neighbor, pushed right back.
Another friend has a VERY similar problem with his new back neighbor. They chained their stupid Dog to His rear privacy fence, don't shovel the shit yada yada. THEN they won't let him walk on HIS 6" of the 0ther side of teh fence to paint it this year, with his size 13 shoes!!! Cops can't help, zoning won't help, Health Dept. ingores the shit. He takes the fence down, board-by-board. Repaints it white then reinstalled it. Oh, did I mention that evry time they look out Their back window now there's the 4'tall Bright Red Swaskita?!!?

I called our county cops a few months ago, to see what the laws were in the ways of noise, to try and keep Kustombuilder OUT of trouble...I was told in our county there IS NO noise ordinance, you just have to "keep the peace" as they called it. I got one for you. In the neighbor hod I live in you are not allowed to park on the street between 1 am and 6 am. I work third shift so no big deal. Well when I got home in the morning I was parking on the street since one side of the driveway was blocked with a truck I could not start and the other side was my wifes side of the driveway. Well somebody complained to the police saying that my truck was blocking the view going up the street. The cop said that I was not doing anything wrong but wanted to know if I would not park in the street. funny thing was that it was the same day that I sold the truck blocking my side of the driveway. Sure glad I am moving.

Unfortunately, she didn't realize that we had an ordinance book (got it after constant harassment for skateboarding). So, I checked the noise ordinance... Maximum of 80dB at the property line... So I bought a dB meter... HEY!!! We're only 65 dB at the property line!!! We can turn it UP!!! and we did! 79dB at the property line, she called the cops again, we showed him the ordinance book, let HIM run the dB Meter, and he told the lady we were well within our rights and she needed to stop bothering the police so they could deal with REAL crime. My neighbors leave me alone. I have a noise ordinance here that starts at 10 pm but I usually stop about 8:30 -9:00 when they start coming over to shoot the shit.

They do bitch about my neighbor to me though. He Starts at about the time I quit.

I lived in another city and had real bad neighbors. We would come home from the local watering hole at 2:30 in the morning on our bikes. We'd zip up into the garage as fast as possible and keep the noise down but 5 or 6 Harleys with drag pipes are loud no matter what we did. We would shut the bikes off a few houses down the street and coast them up to the garage and push them in once we had the door open. He bitched that the garage door opener was too loud.

We finally had enough of this guys shit and we took fertilizer to his front yard and in big letters we wrote dick and ass in his grass. The next year it came out so much greener and grew faster than the rest of the yard.

He bitched how it just disgusted him to look out his windows and see us so my one drunken buddy went out one night and painted all his windows that faced our property a beautiful shade of black.

Another buddy decided that was not enough so he decided to wipe out the guys side yard of any living plants...permananetly. It took three years for anything to grow back. Even when we dug up the dirt and replaced it for our new neighbors that moved in later it still was hard to grow anything. We do not know what the hell he used? Don't mess with a 'nam vet that says it's time to de-foliate the jungle and flush out the VC!

Cops usually know it's the neighbor with the problem. I had a neighbor who would call the police weekly thinking intruders were in the house. She would hang on the fence for hours while I welded and complain to all the neighbors, who turned a deaf ear. Anyways I dropped an engine in the truck and since the timing mark was dead on, figured I'd take a chance it was on the compression stroke and drop the distributor in. It responded with a backfire, so I pulled a plug, found the compression stroke with my finger and dropped the distributor back in, got cleaned up and started to leave to grab a burger when the police come roaring down the street and block my driveway. He gets out all serious and "at the ready" and says the neighbor reported I took a shot at her. I had to laugh out loud and said consider the source, it was a backfire. This broke him up, and he was gone in half a minute.

Hey Mike I feel I should share some first hand thoughts on what you are going thru with your neighbor. You have been to my place and know the neighbors are building in around me. So far no complainers but I feel the day is coming and I am looking for another place.

I can tell you what power 1 complaining neighbor has here in Michigan.....my buddy and his pissy nieghbor went all the way in a fight. She got the state involved when the local gov did not do what she thought was enough. The state has the power to stop you from doing anybody elses work....make you prove you own the cars your working on. Now on the painting side of things the you have the right to paint your own car at home in the garage BUT.....you must have an approved spray booth. The "approved " part here means meets the lastest standards in safety and quiality. My buddy found another place to do his work.

I really scoped out my neighborhood before I bought the house. Had neighbor problems in town. One neighbor decided that the bamboo between our yard a neighbors then his was unsightly. Took it upon himself to have it cut down. Low and behold there are a bunch of cars in those yards. Then he decides that those are unsightly and calls the city. Where I live now is much better, nice blue collar neighbors. Guy behind me builds muscle cars. Guy across the street likes the english sports cars. And a guy with a roofing business was next door for a while. On the other side is the God Squad. But they're ok, they don't bother me. I take care of the property pretty good, and my garage is on the other side of the property from them. Plus I think they may be scared. Who knows? I just can't stand the uptight pricks anymore, that's why I moved out of town.

That "god squad" comment is sorta funny to me.

We live in Mormon land here in Gilbert, AZ. 4 of the 10 houses on our street are Mormons (same family, dad & son's!). Best neighbors in the world. They are polite, keep their 11 million kids (mayb less..lol) uder control. The older kids drive waaay too fast though.

Since most of the kids on the street are the Mormon's I asked the Family head one day why he allows the fast driving. The kids would back from the drive way with out looking, I almost hit a couple of them. By golly they all drive slower now. I don't want to see any kid get hit by a car.

The neighbor (lives alone) across from me likes to save unwanted dogs... she has at least 7 there now. She does NOT "get it" on how noisy these animals are when she is at work or out of town. Some of them bark for 4-6 hours at a time or nearly all night.

I'm almost afraid to post this, because I don't want to jinx it. But I have great neighbors, Always wave or stop and chat, etc. It goes along way, I give every body my cell # and let them know if it gets to loud to call me, Most of them say the noise never bothers them. My reply is always " You never know, you might want to watch a TV show or you may have a headache one night and hearing me grinding is the last thing you need." Always offer to help fix somthing for them, It goes along way. Also the plus side in knowing your neighbors is, They watch you shit, they know if somthing is not right. The woman next store to me lets me use her garage for free! With out asking I bought her a nice HD shelving unit from costco for $50 for the small stuff she had all over the floor. And when my car gets washed so does hers. One night when I was building my welding table I lost track of time. I was grinding till a little after 11pm. NOT ONE phone call. Now I don't make that a regular habit, but you get the Idea. I stop making noise around 10 and am out of the garage by midnite. Don't let things build up, nip this in the bud right away. also this is very important, keep a log on everything. every effort you try to make nice with her, and the result. everytime she calls the cops and the result. It will be important if push come to shove in court. and also if she keeps calling the cops with no results take her to civil court for harrasment.

i get along GREAT with ALL the other neighbors. there is one on each side of me, one in front and one across the street. it's just the one BEHIND us that has a stick in her ass. all the rest of us get together for cookouts and stuff and even though they've been invited the ones behind us NEVER come. they are just not interested in being social (which is fine) but i think it would help them get what they wanted if they were to sociallize and be POLITE to the other eighbors. but then, like i said, i think she just wants to bitch. i really do.
that kiling them with kindnness thing is funny cause the kid next door will ALLWAYS wave and smile at the ladt when he is over and she comes donw her driveway. she gets the most pist off looks when he does this. i usually turn around and laugh my ass off trying not to let her see me laughing.

So just a note to those who've wondered.

I DON'T have any pics of the Swastika fence. My buddy goads me to drive around the block and look at it the 3 times I've been there since July, but I tell him it's what seperates me bein a hillbilly from Him bein a Redneck. And that even tho it's sickly funny I don't think it's right to put that facing your Polish neighbors house. So, I actually haven't seen it in person. Might be he's fulla shit and thinks it's funny to rag me on it. And I don't wanna be respeonsible for it gettin all over the internet if it IS there.

I used to have a neighbor that chained his dog to the fence that was next to my bedroom window. His bedroom was on the opposite side of the yard. When the train would go by at 3:00 and 4:30 the dog would howl his heart out. Not the dogs fault. I told him about the dog howling and he said yeah thats why he had him away from his window.Next night when the train came by and the dog started singing, I picked up the phone and called the neighbor and told him his dog was howling and hung up. Only had to do it twice. He got rid of the poor old dog.

For instance... this afternoon some of our friends were over and I was showing their teenage son how to weld... he's been taking metalshop at school and his mom had a bunch of stools that needed fixing... so anways... I ask them if they'd ever seen the BFD run... theyt said no... so next thing you know, I hop in it... warm it up and head down the street... I run around the block, stop in front of the house and then hit the trans brake, get up to 4000 rpm on the limiter and let it RIP! I must agree with this...PR is the key.
My neighbor and and I have been hosting a Clambake every year. We shut down the street and have a block party with the city's permission. The neighbor started it and I joined in.

We invite all the neighbors and some outside friends. I invite them into my garage for a few beverages and they view my latest project! Seems they usually come to me to later and borrow a tool or ask for help and then the ones that are not into the car scene usually make the time to ask me how the project is coming along. I found out that a neighbor has a '32 Ford coupe buried UNDER his garage! One of the 'hoods old timers remembers burying it with his buddy in the 50's ..before the garage was built over it!

I live out in the country now, after 25 years in town and fighting with the neighbors. The area is getting pretty well built up but the lots are BIG and I have a little over 5 acres. Whenever someone new starts to build I always make it a point to be one of the first to welcome them into the neighborhood. I make it clear that I'm the NOISY neighbor but if they have any complaints I'll be willing to NEGOTIATE. I also let them know I have a well equipted shop and anything they need (tools, welding, etc.) I'm there for them.

So far the only thorn in the bunch is the bitter old lady who was one of the first to build out here. She makes it her duty to complain about EVERYTHING. Now the township realizes she is a bitch but they are obligated to follow up on complaints.

F@#$IN neighbors! The asshole who lives next to me started complaining the day I started building my shop that it blocked his veiw, it was too big, it didnt match the architectural "style" (30x48 steel) of the neighbor hood, ect. Hell I checked for code and covenent restiction before we bought the place. The final straw was when the guy, who by the way runs a commercial cabinet shop out of His shop (which IS illegal), came over to "make sure" I wasnt about to open a commercial garage! Frikkin hypocrit! I kindly assurred him I was'nt and told him to get the hell out.Have'nt spoken since.

But, when all else fails, place cat food on the neighbors porch eight days in a row.
Increase according to the amount of cats that show up for dinner.
