View Full Version : HAMB Auction - I'll build you a Model

...car that is
I've been trying to push my 1000 post mark into a year of being on here because I talk to much, but it doesn't look like thats gonna happen. Either way, I have to help out, 'cause this board is too much fun, and I don't have nearly enough to offer to it.
So, as my 1000'th post, I'm going to auction my services as a model builder. Some of you may have seen some pictures of my work in various posts, but I'll show a few examples for those who havn't. I will build a 1/24-1/25 model to the specs of whomever wins this auction. It can be a custom or a rod, car or a truck, within the theme of this board. Body modifications are no problem, chops, channels, head/tail light mods, paint color (or primer), frame mod's, suspension mods, engine transplants, you name it. There should be no problem finding a kit of the car to be replicated, but if you want something rare, it might be. Don't worry though, there are thousands of kit's to work with. The quality of the model will be top notch and I'll do whatever I can to make the winner happy. The only thing I can't do is weathering or rust spots, otherwise the field is wide open. Start to finish should take about a month, month and a half.
This auction will last 7 days, will end next Tuesday at 12:00 noon, and as soon as Ryan informs me that he's gotten the money, building will begin. Thanks for this opportunity Ryan!

I had promised my wife that I would not bid on another auction this year, and Ryan knows I have supported the board.
But, you have made it tough not to bid.
Sooooooooo, for a 1947 Ford Coupe built like the photo I am attaching, only with painted steel wheels(pale yellow) I will make a serious bid.
Can you do it?

do you have another view of the green sedan..
Also, I have a early 53 chevy panel (straight axle gasser kit) that I would love to have converted into a wagon? to be like mine. is this beyond your ability?
Wish I had the $$$ to win this, I'd love to see you try to build a 60 Buick. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JimC: e-mailed you!
I'm sure the wagon conversion would work, the only thing being that the indentation below the rear side windows would not be there. Otherwise, it can be done.
Here' a couple more of the sedan (largely inspired by the '29 sedan I saw at the '03 Roundup:

60$ the roadster is easy...the sport coupe is a challenge. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Fraz AMT made a 60 Buick. I still have one, but not a flat top.

I'm down for $70. A '50 Buick Super Sedannette custom would make a cool model. I bet it'd get painted before the full-size version....heh heh

This is going really well! Keep in mind guys that not EVERY car that exists has a model of itself. So if you have an idea, go ahead and think of a back up plan just in case. I'm trying to find out if all the previously mentioned cars were made in scale.
Denise - your Olds might be a problem, but most likely not. There isn't a kit of it, but a chevy could be modified to work.
Tommy - sport coupe could be done, could be made from a coupe easy enough I think.
Scotch - dunno about that one. I'm trying to find if somebody at least makes a resin body of it, I'll let you know.
Everyone else - If you feel compelled to do so, visit www.modelcarkits.com (http://www.modelcarkits.com) or www.modelroundup.com (http://www.modelroundup.com) and search for what you want. If you can't find it there, it may still exist. If you know what you want built, but maybe it's sorta odd or you have doubts of it being a model, ask me first! Thanks a lot everyone!

I think this is a cool idea..
Theirs one question in my mind.. Say if the winner wants a replica of their car ,, and you only can find it in a resin cast.. Whos paying for the cast? Since they can go over $100 just for the body + you need a donor kit for parts and such...
Any way.. Good luck..
steve
heres a link for resin casts.... This company is famous for Great casts.. but you guys probably know.. www.modelhaus.com (http://www.modelhaus.com)

Kustoms and rockets, I have a pretty extensive collection of model car kits and bodies, parts, etc. If you need something to build a car for someone on this auction give me a shout and I will donate it to the cause. I think I have an A sport coupe body and a 47 coupe or convert. Anyways, give me a shout. Nutz.

Ill second that. I dont have a room full or anything like that, but i do have a bunch of boxes of parts. If you need something that you dont have just post it and me or someone else on here could probably donate it. I think this is a neat idea.

I'm paying for donor kits and any resin bodies needed. I seriously doubt any body needed will be more than $25 or so, $100 is pretty ridiculous for just a body, even for the best quality stuff. I will GLADLY accept any donor parts from any of you H.A.M.B.ers! I look foward to seeing how this will turn out and what the project will be.

I'd be willing to pay BIG money if you could build me a replica of a French car, 1928 La'Trein Urin 8. It was a 2 seater. Slow as piss and drove pretty sh*tty, but a real looker.
Can you say "wee"?http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You do nice stuff K&R. It can be tough building stuff for others, especially when it comes time to give it away. I would like to be a part of this if I can. Any parts, advice, info, what ever just let me know. I have done many body conversions over the years. Have attached a couple of images to let you know I may have some idea on model stuff. One is a 1/25 A coupe the other a modified Ertl diecast that will eventually be a replica of the late Jim Ewing's Superbell coupe http://photo.starblvd.net/~whodaky/3-1-5.jpg a if http://photo.starblvd.net/~whodaky/3-2-1.jpg

Whodaky, nice model A but the steerings on the wrong side... so do models kits in your neck of the woods come in left or right hand drive?
whodaky
12-30-2003, 11:33 PM
most of the stuff I build comes from your fine country, but I generally do them right hand drive to suit our road rules (not that they need to be build suit suit our road rules, as they are only models). Although there are certain ways left hand drive cars can be licensed here. Glad you like the models. Thanks, Geoff aka who daky

[/ QUOTE ]
Make two cuts, then glue the top back to the bottom! Seriously, it's pretty easy...the contours of the cab are close enough that all you have to do it take some out of the middle of the top. The only challenge might be the back of the cab, with all the different ribs, but putty can fix all that. Good luck.
Everyone else...thanks for a compliments!!! 3 days to go...
