Hi,
I've got to repair the front frame of a stock Deuce with ASC new frame horn repair parts, and need to get some advice from someone knowledgable, or with a stock deuce frame from the Hamb.
I'm trying to figure out the exact position for the frame horns and am having difficulties. I have a frame diagram which I got off ebay but it isn't 100% clear.
From the diagram it looks like if you put a ruler at the bottom of the steering arm hole on the drivers side frame, thru the centre of the top hole of the 4 hole, to the left of the swage in the frame (which I believe are wheel carrier bracket holes) - it looks like this goes thru the rear spreader bar hole of the front frame horns. Can anyone confirm this??
Thinking about it - even a measurement taken from a frame level on the floor - with the distance from one of the spreader bar holes to the floor would be ok
Hopefully someone can make some sense of this
please help so I can get on and repair the frame.
thanks
Bob

Hey Bobbed you in Aust ( Katoomba? ) attached is an image of frame dimensions from the book by Tony Thacker '32 Ford V8 The Deuce. You may have to blow it up to see the dimensions. You stated in your post that you got a diagram off E-bay and are a little confused. I have stock frame here and the dimensions from the horizontal surface on the top of the frame to the centre of the front spreader bar hole is 3 5/8" (or 92 mm if you like ). However the front spreader bar hole in my frame is is offset in the frame by 3/8" to the bottom and in the diagram attached it shows this hole on centre. Although it would appear that the holes in my frame are factory as they have the factory shim plates still attched on the inside of the frame where the spreader bar goes. The Deuce frame under my 5 window orignially was bobbed and I made new frame horns but I wasn't overly fussed by getting them exact at the time!
I hope this is all of some help, if I can help further let me know. Geoff http://photo.starblvd.net/~whodaky/4-1-3.jpg

With a straight edge clamped to the bottom of the frame at the flat erea below the body, I get 2 3/4" to the center of the front spreader bar hole. (I think that is what you are looking for) Don't forget to allow for the rivit heads if you lay the frame on the floor and measure.
The top of the frame is flat from the firewall hole dimple to the front crossmember. If you are replacing more than just the front horns, clamp some angle iron to the top of the frame. That should get you very close.
Bob, I like to work from patterns. If you would like,I would trace a pattern on a piece of paper and mail it to you. How much are you replacing so I know how long a pattern you need.

Thanks Guys, you've been a great help
Tommy, Whodaky thanks, any chance of telling me the thickness of the shim plates so I can make some up to make the frame look factory.
Andy I've sent you a PM - with the 3 different options I'll soon be able to get the rails looking good again
thanks again

they are a little over 1/16th of an inch bobbed and are shaped in the shape of what will be the end plates on the spreader bar. Geoff

Geoff,
also forgot to mention that I am in Katoomba NSW,
there's a few Rodders up here and plenty of classic cars and motorbikes.
It's pretty nice up here when the weather is good.
Thanks again, I appreciate it
