I went to the junkyard today and found some stuff and i have a few questions about it. I found a 1949-51 (i think) F5 pickup. It was a big dually truck. It had the complete 8ba 24 stud flattie (if i counted right). The motor even still had the carb on it. I dont know much about these, but the guy said he wanted 400 which seemed a little steep. Also though i was wondering if this truck has the same steering box as the f1 and also if it has the same shock mounts like the ones being auctioned off on the board. Also, i found an old GMC truck and i beleive it had the grill shell that was made into a hot rod A grill shell by someone on the board. Can anyone post a pic of the grill shell before it was cut up? Thanks a bunch

$400 for the whole truck?
I think the trans and rear are different than the smaller trucks.

I don't know nuttin bout FH prices, or much in general but since hardly anybody ELSE is tryin ta help ya... bout all that you'd be able to use from the rest would be the cab, doors and grille. Far as I know the fenders Definitely the trans, whole susp. and frame are differnt.
Why dontcha come to Ohio and get a whole truck (not runnin) for about that money? Choice of styles! Hog Heaven's closin out...

On that grille thing, I think it was NealinCa did it. Look in the tech section. It's a lengthy download, but well worth it.
ck,
The entire cab is the same as an F-1. The hood, grill, and the pieces over and under the grill are the same. The fenders are different in that the wheel openings are huge on the big trucks. The speedometer is different, too. The big trucks (at least all the ones i've seen) had a governor built into the speedometer and also had the speed ranges for each gear printed on the speedo face.
Personally I think that $400 for a flat motor which may or may not run is way too much.
I don't know what the shock mounts look like on the big trucks.
Yeah, it's neilinca that did the grill.

if the motor runs good doesnt heat ,its fair, if the motors not stuck its a little hi, pull the heads check for cracks in the chamber, steering box is not the same its bigger...

400 is a fair price if the block is crackfree.
Ask if you can return it if it has a fatal crack.
Otherwise i would pay 100-150$ for the parts
But its really up to the buyer and the seller to agree on the price.
An easy way to check 21 or 24 stud is to count the lower bolts on the head.
21 = 5 bolts
24 = 8 Bolts

I just bought a 50 ford F-2 for $75 off of ebay (I offered seller $75 and he ended the auction early). Has a complete 8BA that hain't stuck or cracked. That was a steal though. Would an F-2 steering box be the same as an F-1?
