hey all,
thinkin in a hundred different directions on the RPU today, started fabbing the floor and then thought ,maybe I outa build a centre crossmember first....duh.
Any way, saw the twin 97/94 adapters that charlie price is making, and in my never ending quest for backwards tech, thought hey how about two 94's sicking up outa a 4barrel manifold on the 289?
The motor is basically a rebuilt stock, untouched heads,RV cam, will run headers, mallory mech. adv dizzy. C4 auto box.
I may be able to get a couple a 94's cheap, will they flow enough for this engine?should they be hooked up direct or progressive?
any words of wisdom? Ive not dealt with 94's before, but they look dead simple, and Im a mechanic. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
kinda hate the look of holleys and this will give the engine an old school look along with the generator and old cal custom valve covers.
should stick up into the line of sight too... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The Holley 94 has a cfm rating of 165 X 2 = 330 cfm. The small Autolite 4bbl that came on stock 289s was 480 cfm. Hope this helps you.

sure maiki....you know my budget-hey! my birthdays comin up!
so the cfm's are too low by the sound of it,Is there another carb with a three bolt pattern that would be better suited and still look kinda trad?
Or can 94's be bored/modified to flow above 200cfm?
is charlie price someone i could rely on for advice on this?

Being a Ford fanatic...and a smartass that I am, I would say any type of multi-carburation on a 289 is overcarburation....... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
They ran fine with their Autolite 2100 2V carbs too......you should be just fine.......

it would be closer to "period correct" with 2X4 manifold and 2 small autolite 4bbl. carbs IMHO.

here in oz multiple carb intakes for SBF's are fukken dear,
i.e. 3x2barrel $1100 !!!
I had thought of using the alum. 2barrel manifold ive got and welding on two mouints for a fake 3x2 set up,but even thats dearer than the adapter and two 94 way.i like the idea of it sitting up in the wind too... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I guess if they flow close to a 350 holley, could be enough...not lookin to make bulk power any way.

Actually there are several varieties of 94's; the Y block and BugSquirter versions flow in the 190 range.
Even so the setup you describe will be overcarbed since you will not have any control over the flow and it will be like running a 4bbl with the secondaries open all the time.
Try it and see, maybe have to play with jet size and power valves so that the rear one comes in differently.

thanks 286,
yeh I guessed that would be the case with them opening together, I like the idea of muckin about with carbs (wierd, i know!) so might give it a bash.maybe a progressive setup with the second carb jetted down?

Either R&C or SRM had an article on making linkage that would do that with dual 2bbls. Dont remember which but it was maybe 2 years ago.
In that scenario I would jet the primary for good plug color in moderate driving and let the secondary dump all the 289 can handle at the higher RPM's.

I'm running dual 97's on 255 CIs. They work great.
The guys that I've talked to that run the center 2 94's on a six deuce manifold say they work fine up to a point about 5000 rpm. Then they run out of poop. I picked out 2 of the 1 1/8" for the center carbs for my 6-2s. I might get it up to 5 grand once a year. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif You wouldn't want them if you plan on racing it, but for tooling around on the street it should be fine. IMHO
