are they different on the truck motors?
is the PULLEY different? from the car pulley?
what about the water pump?

I have a pump that is hitting the PULLEY???
it;s a truck motor?????

never encountered this...

I think i could have a car pump? and a truck pulley?

it seems that the truck puller would be THICKER and ;longer to get fan closer to radiator....

any insight/
because the PARTS guy is almost about FUCKED if I ask him

6. Water pump/generator alignments depend on each other. Install the water pump first. If your '235 wore the long water pump pulley, DO NOT BEGIN HACKING ON THE RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT and/or LATCH PANEL! Patrick's has the short pump and special pulley for only $109.95. This allows for the use of the larger, late-model fan, which provides better cooling. (Note: it is not correct to press the early '216 pulley onto the late water pump, since this spins the impeller approximately 190% of design speed, and may even cavitate the water, causing overheating. In addition, the old, back-woods method can literally be dangerous, since it requires using the '216 "low-speed" fan which is turned far beyond its design safety.)

I've heard the same thing Homie...
with the different 235/216 pulleys and fan blades...

other than that, I don't think there is a difference between
truck versus car stuff...

where is it hitting exactly..??

No need to spend all the money for a Patrick's kit, get a '55-up pump (assuming you are working with a '55-up engine), put it in a press and press the flange down on the shaft, and cut the excess shaft off. Use a sbc pulley, rather than the original "deep dish" one....

As far as I know all the pre'55 engines had the short shaft and pulley.

On my car I used a factory flex type fan from a 300 ford six, and trimmed the blades down until they cleared the crank pulley. Also used a shroud from a '53 - '56 Ford truck with a six, it fits perfect after you trim the bottom off....It was over 100 degrees in Joplin at the drags and I was running 195 in traffic with the air on...and it's a stock radiator.

Pumps are cheap, $40 Cdn (about $1.95 US) and all pulleys from 55-62 shoud fit.....

the Filling Station sells the shortened pump for $99 and I'm running one now. It's a '55 pump with a pre 54 pulley. I don't know if it works or not because I put the 55 pulley over that pulley. Woorks fine. The Filling Station also sells a conversion kit for $45 that allows you to use a stock pre-54 pump. That way, if your pump ever goes out, you can get a replacement from NAPA and not have to mess with shortening another pump.

The adapter plate method is the cats ass. At first I made my own pulley and pressed it on to make a short shaft pump but the fan is too low for the rad and overheating can happen if sitting in traffic. After switching to the adapter plate with an older pump cooling is much better. Some comparison pics and info can be found here:

I have the adapter on my 37,used to have the shortened pump with the 216 pulley but never had any issues with getting hot as it has a 4 row radiator. Never could run a stock fan with that pump but do now with the adapter.

I have a 48 coupe with a 216 that I'm swapping out to a 1953 235 Pressurized engine. According to this PDF the 53 pressurized already has the short pump on it. So, I probably wont have to change anything. (I haven't actually seen the engine yet).
