your car sucks

man, nobody could drive my cars. i know you know what im talking about. to get my car started, it takes 4 pumps, jiggle the key till it turns, then crank till it pops off, but never actually runs that first time, then 3 more pumps, jiggle key, repeat, and manually hold the pedal up(i have no choke) at app. 2500 for a minuet, then into nuetral for the roll before i put int in gear(otherwise it will die).then i pretty much have to 2 foot it around the neighborhood for awhile. not such a bad operation compaired to some cars ive owned in the past. all my wagon really needs is a tune up and tune, but im just used to it now. whatever, its a good winter beater.

i just kinda wanted to hear about what it takes to get your cars going down the road. i know some of you guys out there have some good stories. how many of you guys daily drive your pre 65 rides? just curious.

well, let see..
the 64 Chevelle Malibu i used to own burned through starters every other month due to the headers wrapping around the starter so damn tight.. but the ignotion switch was a bit tempermental.. so ya, 3 pumps of the pedal, 1 SLIGHT turn of the key, then an immediate jerk of the key would fire the bitch right up!!

and thats only if the tranny was in park, but the shifter absolutley HAD to read in betwen reverse and neutral!

yea, my shifter was THAT fucked up! (I didnt install it!, it came that way)

rite now i'm drivin a crappy ' 95 taurus..my column shifter sticks so when you get in the car,if you start it in park,the shifter wont move unless you sit there for a half hour and yell at it and hope it slips into gear.the only way i've been able to get it to move is by turnin the key halfway (not far enough for the accessories to kick on)and slip it into neutral and then start it up..then it's a whole lot of vibration from what i can tell is the tranny (rite under my legs and stuff) until i'm done backing up and i can get a few miles down the road..i know it needs to be fixed,but i'd rather get another car first!

Starting the cars in the cold usually isn't my problem. It's trying to get that solid fluid in the tranny to loosen up enough to let me shift it. Anything below about minus 20 and you have to rock the shifter back and forth for a while to turn that 500 weight taffy back into a useable state. Fun watching the hydraulic clutch pedal slowly rise after you let off of it too.

Every day: Get in, key to "on", put the gas pedal to the floor. Thats it. the ignition only has "lock", "on" and "off". you step on the gas because the starter switch is on the carb body. people get so confused when I am talking to them and I have both arms out the window and my car starts on its own.... its factory on my 56 buick.

The 54 chevy is a little tougher to start.... -J.

Turn on the gas...Full choke...5 primes...Pull hard,7 or 8 times...ease back the choke as you cough and spit out the rich fumes.

Thats just the Snowblower to get TO the garage! Hahaha

Now that I have it running right...

Choke full on, crank it up, pump 3 times or until it fires, Rev a bit while I turn the choke off, rev a bit more and hope it dosn't stall. If it stalls it usually fires right up the second time. Then I just let it warm up a bit and she's good to go.

booooyyyy you know that my car takes hooking up the battery because there is a drain i cant find, actually i havent looked for it. then you pump it four or five times then you stick the screwdriver in the ignition, and turn. let it warm up move the 300. after the truck with the mustang on the trailer that neeeds to go to the scrap yard, but the truck doesnt run so, by then the water pump is watering the shop floor, and filling the whole town with smoke. and it dies, ahh shit it flooded, never mind

bbbooooyyyy BAGGEDnFAGGED your so jelous of my car that you have to make your rear end just as low, and the thing isn't even a runner. try making it drivable before bagging the rear. we really dont care if it lays frame on the shop floor when it isn't gonna leave the shop. that thing better have a new motor by paso. by the way, anyone near Sacramento have a 302 layin around, my engine is takin a shit. i need a 302 and a bell housing for cable or linkage type clutch. already have T5.

A little bit of hope. Connect the battery, turn ignition switch on, pump gas 3 - 4 times, get out, jump the starter, while playing with the carb from the opposite side of the car. get it idling well enough to run back into the car and idle it using the gas pedal. Whalaaa that is the mystery start of the ol' Buick.
