Well, I haven't downloaded the camera for a while. Had to after all the Wright Flyer pics, needed to empty the memory card. So, Here are some pics. First is the chopper bicycle I have been making. Started with a 24" wheeled Huffy Mountain bike.

I'm thinking one quiet muffler and one straight pipe on the VW. That thing is going to freak a lot of people out.

Just have to throw in a pic of the flyer. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif It's everybody taking turns trying to get the last safety cotter pin in the hole of the brace pin. Last thing before being able to attempt flight.

You know, I would do short glass packs. But the customer is probably going with flowmasters.

When he gets a radiator and some other parts, the car will be back for more work. We put a nose on this car (it was baja'd) and the back will get a dragster lookin wing, boxing in the rad. We have to figure out how to separate the rad from the engine and get airflow to both.

Purple,

Put some NACA type ducts in the rear side windows or down on the body below the rear side window, use plexi if ya want to keep em clear.

Keep us informed on this one. Did you make that adapter/bell housing between the motor and transaxle? Nice work.

Nice bug. My father and I have built a 914 with a SBC mounted mid ship. Pretty much what you have there. We ran it through one Flowmaster in the stock Porsched location. For some reason it sounded much stronger than the 1.8 we pulled out of there. Seemed faster as well.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I used to have a 914 also and wanted to swap in a big block I had at the time...but had the fear of getting squished after hitting something. It would have probably had the same effect as using a slide hammer.

Now that is funny! I guess I just did not plan on hitting anything... We also put a full roll cage in the car. It was built to run "Open Road Races". We ran it at Ft. Stockton one year, but sold it before we could run in Nevada.

Yorgi, the bike is my "learning to weld" project. It's more of a need to do thing before I go and make the mini a chopper. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The plexi side windows is what we are probably going to do, goes right along with the drag race look he wants. This bug has a full roll cage, and the body will still unbolt and lift off. The tranny adapter is aftermarket.

dig the Bug. if he was going for more of a sleeper street look than the drag race look i'd suggest mounting th radiator up front on an angle then duct the air from under the front nose into it and then duct it back out under the the car. i've had some WILD ideas for a mid engined Bug floating around my head for years. maybe someday.

Hey Purple where did you get the tranny kit at. I have a customer that has a sand rail that wants todo the same thing. Any info would be a great help.

Purple - Water pipes from a fiero might work... they're stainless steel, and are made to run down the center of the car... should be long enough too. Pretty wild bug, i've always thought it would be fun to build something like that, especially as a Karman Ghia version.

I made a call, then searched the web.

After discussions with others I would not use the Porsche, but a beefed up bus transaxle. The Porsche can handle a little more than 300hp, but the bus can be made to withstand much more. This place has many different adapters for transaxles.
