Because of the very extreme hot temps here in Arizona and I am guessing you can't afford an optima battery. I am not indorsing or promoting anyones product. The local here in phoenix is one of the worst for batteries in the US you will be lucky if it last maybe two to five years. I was shock when I bought an Interstate and lasted 8 years. Maybe just lucky so thats my experience it beat out remanufactured ones from Autozone Parts House (duracell)

the best damn car battery i have ever ran in my cars is a Costco brand, kirkland signature. they are very inexpensive. i have one in my 57 chevy and my 56 chevy. one is running a GM 1 wire alternator and the other is running the stock generator. i have found that these batteries perform just the same no matter how many times they die and get recharged. this is just my experience. anyone else use these kind of batteries?

I like running the el-cheapo group 24 batterys with removable caps so I can fill it when it gets low. The group 24 should be plenty big enough to crank any flatmotor with a 12 volt battery and 6 volt starter. Even if mounted in the trunk.
Here in the midwest, our project will usually get parked for the winter and the battery gets taken out of the car. If the battery freezes, it's instant junk. I usually store the battery in the house or sometimes slip it into my winter beater. Group 24 generally anythink I drive.

I use Interstate on all my replacement batteries. The Megatron. I always get 6 -7 years of service.

My nieghbor runs 2 6V lawn mower batteries in Series(12V).
Those things are tiny and he spins a SBC with no problem.

I sell Interstate and have had no problems with them. They are but ugly green (the Megatrons are black) so I paint them flat black. If they wern't so damn expensive I'd use one of the repro antiquers batterys with the old screw on caps. I think they are cool looking. I even thought about using one of those odd shaped GM batterys. Long and skinney. just to make people ask why. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

thanks... i'll price out the interstates - they've got a good reputation. if they're too pricey i think i'll just use a cheapo napa group 24.
