Holiday Cheer, BEER! OT for some

Those who have been around the HAMB for a few years will relate to a good light hearted beer post. We got on the subject every few months it seems. And since we tend to get together with friends and relative to share strong drink I thought it was a good time to hit the bottl........er subject again!

My father in law was kind enough to pick up a bunch of Shiner Bock last winter on his way through Texas. He treated us with it this week! He now has an order to fill for several of us as he heads south again for the winter http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It is weird or just surreal that a South Dakotan is enjoying a SHINER BOCK in Minnesota? So what is your flavor of holiday cheer?

Shiner Bock kicks ass, you can get it at the grocery store here in SoCal, but its EXPENSIVE! Opposite of why my old freinds in Austin liked it so much and how I got introduced to it...

I keep the side of a SB 6-pack stuck to my fridge, it mystifies those who do not know...

As Tom T. Hall said and I agree "As a matter of fact, I like Beer"
From there, it matters most on who is buying.

I, personaly favor Boulevard Wheat Ale, one of which I am enjoying now.

I like Samuel Adams Beer, Budwieser, when it is really cold, and Carona with about 7 drops of Tobasco sauce(forget the lime).

Frozen Margaritas are good for me. I like them on the rocks, but drink em too fast. So I order margaritas frozen.

Oh! Did I mention I am the designated driver?

Oh man, an opportunity to talk about beer. Woo hoo!

For Christmas I got a killer home brew kit. My first batch will be two cases of porter. 2nd will be a Belgian double. Hopefully the third will be a skull splitting 15% barley wine that'll be ready to drink next Holiday season.

As far as what I've been drinking lately, Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. Strong and about as subtle as a kick in the nuts. Love it.

I'm out of beer so I'm making due with a bottle of Jose Ta-Kill-Ya tonight. Usually drink Bud, Michelob if you're buying. Saw San Miguel on the store cooler shelf yesterday and almost bought some for old times sake. That'd be like going back to Nam to see if they still shoot at you! Then I remembered, that shit doesn't travel well and the only reason to drink it in the Phillippines was because it was all they had there. It's an aquired taste... Kinda like skunky Schlitz Malt or Colt 45. I'd rank it just below PBR but San Magoo will mess you up faster and make you pee clear sooner. Still, it beats COORS! Coors Ewwww that's like drinking water but with no taste. Not to say that Coors doesn't put out so great beers. Blue Moon Ale is awesome. And the boys that created it at Coors field make some damn nice Barley Wine....Boy Howdy. Tonite it was a 12 of guinness bottled great with chocolate ice cream. I could run on for a while about booze and food pairing so I'll stop right here. One tip though. EVERYTHING tastes better with booze in it. Cook with it match it to yer food. Brandy and apple juice cooked down then poured over a HAM or pork roast is da bomb.

A cold Shiner makes everything in the world just seem right. I have not found anyplace outside of Texas where I can buy it though. It is more expensive than the usual Lone Star, but Damn it is worth every penny!

While you're over this way, stop by a liquor store and pick up a sampler 8-pack from Capital Brewing out of Madison, WIsconsin.

Their 1900 brew is very tasty -- near top of my list lately.

All-time favorite has to be Bell's Kalamazoo Stout out of Kzoo, Michigan. So thick you damn near need a spoon.

And Schell's products out of New Ulm, MN still hold a special place in my heart. Stomach. Liver. Whatever. Schmalz's Alt is a good one there.

Yuengling is awesome, especially for the price.

Someone else said Rolling Rock. That stuff is crap compared to Yuengling. It's half the beer at twice the price. The yuppies in New York think it's great.

If money is no object, I'd go for a beer from Belgium.

For holiday cheer, I'd like some Scotch (or Scots, if you're particular.)

Hey now, a chance to talk about beer. The perfect beverage. Yessir, a good cold dark brew on a hot night-or a cold night for that matter-what could be better. I am very lucky as my daughter buys me a membership in the beer of the month club and I get a case of very off the wall brews every month. Sheesh, I can't even remember the names as they are bottled by some of the strangest breweries. But, what could be more fun than every month getting a case of suds delivered to your door and you have no idea what will be inside until you rip into it! Sometimes good stuff-sometimes not so good. But, always fun to sip a new brew. Now, with respect to Coors, I can only recite what a dear friend from Australia said about Colorado Cool Aid. He said that the taste reminded him of making love in a canoe. I was baffled but, he explained that making love in a canoe was fucking close to water. And that was the taste of Coors. I laughed so hard because he was dead nuts right! Other than that I have no opinion.

Back in the day(1972) here in Ohio,a man would KILL for an actual ORIGINAL Coors........Hell,we even hired our Air Force Pilots to fly us back a load EVERYTIME they went "west of the Rockies"..Shit man......that was Heaven on Earth,back in the day........
Tonight,though,I am enjoying a Southern Comfort and Amaretto on the rocks....
