So.. I go out to start the 54 and hit the key. Starter turns over fine. I let go of the key to give it a few pumps and the starter is still turning over. Turn the key to the off position and the starter is still turning over. Turn the key to the lock position and take it out of the ignition... yup, the starter is still cranking. Pulled the battery cable off before the 235 fired up. Tried this a couple more times with the same results. Should I look for the problem at the ignition switch or the solenoid?

first...wack it with a BFH (see if it lets go---you can also turn the motor BACKWARDS by hand)...next take it out and lube the bendix...sounds like it's hangin' up due to lack of lube...last--solenoid may be stuck "on".......... also...make sure the wire that energizes the solenoid goes OFF when ya let go of the key...

low voltage problem, check all the connections (cables, battery), check battery voltage you might have to check starter and sol inside. 6v are hit more with low voltage problems because of the high amp demand. make sure battery is in a good state of charge.
