Hello HAMB,
I am Tom Dillion from Columbus, Ohio. I was the "lurker" in the pictures taken at the KKOA Cookout held at the home of Skipstitch. It was great to meet this bunch of HAMBers and enjoy the many discussions about cars and the HAMB. Many thanks go to Skipstitch and his wife for inviting me to an excellent cookout. Skipstitch and I go back a few years. He and I were members of the Buckeye Scale Auto Club at one point. I am still a member of the club and I am the current president. If you like, you can visit the club website at: http://bsac.topcities.com/
I am currently working on a 64 Chevrolet Impala SS. You can see pictures at the following website: http://bsac.topcities.com/1964chevy/main.htm. I have owned the car since 1972. It went into storage in 1980 because of transmission blow-up number 12, lack of cash, and the births of our 2 children. The children are now leaving the nest, which provides the necessary cash to rebuild the car. Storage was not very kind to the car. I am currently taking the car apart in order to get rid of a lot of rust and weld in new floor boards and new rear quarter panels. I have many ideas for the car. One of which will be to have Skipstitch upholster the car when it gets far enough along. I can't wait until it's finished so I can drive it again.

Good intro.......history and all! You're to be congratulated for hanging on to your baby through the lean years. It's always a temptation to just sell the damn thing so you don't hafta pay storage on your dead car anymore and get the little woman off your back about it.....
Those cars are a little too big for my tastes but I've seen some of 'em that were interesting... welcome.

Welcome to the HAMB from a fellow scale modeller. I've held my fair share of committee positions also, including Pres, Vice Pres and Editor of Perth & Districts Modelling Club in Western Australia. I'm going to go and check out your club website now.
In regards to the '64, I'm thinking flake, Supremes and thinline whites... but that's just me (and 99% of the rest of the HAMBers) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Maybe something along these lines...

Thanks to all of you for the welcome.
The current plans are once the new floor boards and rear quarter panels are welded on the body to then take the body off the frame. I'm doing the welding first because I'm afraid the body will just collapse in on itself... Just kidding, but you never know. Once the frame is free, I plan to either have it sandblasted or dipped to get rid of all the rust. After the frame looks beautiful again I plan to install an air ride suspension, 2" drop front spindles and 4 wheel disc brakes. The 327 300hp engine/4 speed transmission are just getting a simple rebuild... maybe a slightly better cam though. I am still thinking about the rear end. It is the original 10 bolt, which I blew up 4 times. Right now is has a 3.73 posi, but it whines. I might install a Ford 9 inch rear end to handle any excessive acceleration, but I don't know yet (Ford in a Chevy?). I plan to paint the car two tone: pale yellow sides and dark blue top (hood, top, trunk lid). I would like to have leather put in the interior for durability (and looks). I personally like cloth because it breaths, so maybe the interior will have a little of both. The colors will be tan/beige and pale yellow. This all depends on suggestions by Skipstitch and what he can handle. The car does not have air conditioning and I really don't want it because I like the windows open. But, I will have to install it, if I want my wife to go to the shows with me. The plans for wheels are either American Racing Torq Thrust II with blackwalls or Radir with whitewalls. We will see how it all works out.
Right now I'd just be happy if the car was in primer and running!
