I found this site the other day and new I had to join. I've read a lot of good information and I'm looking forward to learning a bunch more and contributing any knowledge I might have on a subject.
A little about myself I was born and raised in Alaska and Attended Letourneau University in east Texas were I received a mechanical engineering degree and an associates in Automotive and Machinery Technology.
Currently I live in Alaska and work in it’s Prudhoe Bay oilfield. I've always been a hotrod fanatic and loved what people at the time thought to be oddities. I recently sold my Barracuda in the hopes of building a vintage hotrod. I don't want some $60,000 show car I want what my Dad and Grandfather would have built with their hard earned money. I recently have been given the chance to purchase an old sprint car from the 50's. It's mainly a chassis and parts, but it does have some nice parts which could be used on my home built hotrod. Like the leaf spring front axle, 3sp Chevy gearbox with torque tube which mates to the original drum braked Halibrand champ rear-end. It also has a nice side exit sprint car steering box and the torsion bars for the rear suspension setup. Just missing a power plant and a body but in time I hope to fix that as there is an old junk yard near buy were maybe I can scrounge up an old straight eight or nail head motor. Not any flatties in there as I've looked but a lot of 50's and 60's rides that might work as a donor.
That gives you a little insight about me and my current project. The biggest challenge up here in Alaska is locating decently priced parts. Anything I locate in the lower 48 cost and arm and a leg to get up here so I'm forced to improvise and redesign around what I can find but that’s a lot of the fun of designing a homebuilt hotrod.
