I HAVE to re-locate the gas tank in my '57 p/u...

Alright, maybe "have" is a strong word but the fumes were getting to me...

What do I need to look out for when moving it? I know I need to look for clearance of the obvious (rear end, drive-line, exhause) but what else? Can I simply measure the opening and get a late model tank that will fit the opening and fabricate some mounts?

I need help.

Thanks.

Here is a link for putting a mustang tank in the back of a ford truck, but the same principles apply. Mustang tanks are cheap and will probably work for your application.

HERE IS THE LINK:
GAS TANK LINK CLIK HERE (http://www.octm.com/dane/index24.htm)

Hope this helps.

I used a 66' Mustang gas tank im my 29 Model A Pickup with a 69' Dodge Charger gas cap in the bed. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The tank is flat on top because it served as a trunk floor it the "Stang" and it can easily be adapted between the rails of your pickup. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your biggest challenge will be the filler neck and cap...! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Good luck!

70's Blazer tanks work. Fit real nice. Just have to remove the spare tire mount.

I got the one for my 60 from No Limit Engineering. I got part number TNK-A and it is a 21-galon tank. The rear crossmember has to be moved (Just weld in a section of box tubing in the very back of the frame and remove the stocker). It comes with a sending unit and everything. Now you'll have room for a wall of subwoofers behind the seat so you can blast the new 50 Cent joint, yo! LOL

Actually a full keg is 30 gallons, what frat boys and beer bars usually buy are 1/2 kegs, 15 gal.

Hex this is how I did my tank. I relocated tank to the rear bought a repo gas tank on ebay from 67 mustang they are inexspensive new I paid $60.00 better than no limits $400.00 . I drilled the ribbets out on rear cross member and moved back. After fitting the tank have some of the ribbets need to be replaced after with grade eight bolts cause they hold spring hangers. The modification to tank was to drill new hole for sender on top of tank done with hole saw for sending unit (cut down Stock unit) taking round excess material and welding up original mustang sender hole. Some slight trimming is done on frame less than 1/8 Hope this help sorry no pics

Perfect.... I think itta be a bit too big for the trunk.. How about cutting the trunk so the keg can fit snug right between. like half way in the trunk , half way under neath... Not a bad idea, i would have to say...
