I'm gonna throw in a nomination for one of my favorite HAMB rods...
...Kulturepimp's rad 38 Ford truck!
I dug this thing so much I made a trip down to Indy to see it in person!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Not finished...but he was driving it this year!
I like it cuz:
It's rough, raw and rusty
It's got FE (390) Ford power
It's different...stands out from the crowd!

I have a late nomination, I hereby nominate flatheadpete's "Peter Beater" I only have an old pic, but this bucket is on the road, and running strong! It was officially roadworthy in November of this year. Flathead, s-10 5 speed, 16" front wheels, 18"rears. The car was built on a budget, with other peoples leftovers, and it turned out pretty frickin cool!

Nope Bleedster hasn't run yet, but I still have a week......
Actually I took it straight to "Chris the Interior Maniac"'s place straight after the Pile Up and just got it back a couple of weeks ago. The interior is amazing.
It will be finished within a month complete with a super secret mix of candy........... so I guess it's out of the running. Thanks though.
I could have just put the thing on the road a bunch of times, but I keep getting caried away and I want it to be FINISHED when I drive it.
I would have voted for Luke's truck if he wasn't such a fucking Crybaby GIRL. boo hoo.
I'll vote for the kid from Ca who got that graffiti covered 52-54 Ford on the road. I can't remember his name. Anyway that's pretty cool for a young kid.

My vote is for Metalshapes roadster hands down. This car is so off the charts of what is going on in the car world that it is not funny. I say this not just becuse he is one of my closest friends, but this car is going to change how people build and drive these's cars. If any of you get a chance to see this car I hope you have the same reaction as Vern Tardell did at the so-cal open house. My 2 cents anyway and my vote.

I'd like to nominate Roadstar's new 40 Ford. Was just completed earlier this month. Pictures don't even do it justice. The details are stunning. He did everything himself sans interior which was done by "The Mad Pleater". Rudy is one of the most talented hot rod builders I have ever met.

I nominate Jay Ward's Ain't Lackin' '29 Model A highboy roadster! With the early Caddy OHV motor... somebody... get me a pic! As far as period traditional cars go... his is right up there in detail, stance etc.
Also, we need to scrounge up pics of all the nominees... should make the survey/voting mo' fun...

I thought I saw that 33 plymouth on egay.........Im sorry if it didnt sell oh and I know someone already did it but I say the bleedster...I saw the thing in person just a few days ago and I nearly slipped on my own drool
I think they are all great cars and every one of them is a tribute to this crazy hobby, fantasy, craze, addiction, obsession of ours.
SO I'm not going to insult everybody but one by voting on anyone of them.
They're all BITCHIN! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
"Of course it doesn't have to be painted or any such nonsense as that...." Sounds like rockasilly attitude!
I see alot of neat cars, most of them in progress. Of the finished ones: The Tardel built 34 Pick-Up and Mark´s Outlaw clone. And yes, the 36 cpe Keith built is also on my list. But my number one is the Chevy that Cole built for Ness... (and next years will probably be the coupe Cole is building right now...)

Roadstar's 40, Cleatus' Sled, the Bellflower Buick. Those are some really DONE rides! I am also kinda partial to Root's Drag-N-Fly for some reason though. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif But I haveta say "CONGRATS!" to everyone that put wheels on the road this year. Hopefully I can have something on next year's list. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Von Tingler: I know my stuff for sure, do you?
What I did mean was the "or any such nonsense as that...." part of what you wrote. That do sound "Rockasilly"!
I sure can appriciate a car in primer as well, and of course I know that several of the mentioned cars are "finished" in its primer stage. But I am no big fan of the attitude that a primered car is better than a painted one, just because its primered...
In that case... OK since its Christmas!
(but I wont change my mind...)

first off,its great being nominated, thanks Von Tingler(your checks in the mail http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif),but there are way to many bitchin rides out there that hit the streets this year,as long as its not a black primmered 4 dr red wheeled LTD,then they're all great!
the best part i love is seeeing these cars come together on the HAMB.someone dragging them home and then building them here on the HAMB.i love it

Plowboy
12-24-2003, 11:12 AM
Wow, I appreciate the mention, but my truck is not done yet. I guess it did run under its own power though (233 miles before my rear axle bearing let go on the interstate). It is currently in preparation for a spiffy shiny paint job and the motor is torn apart getting a new set of "special" heads. I guess you can strike me from the list too!
It is difficult to say who's stuff is the coolest though. If there are 3000 members you will get 3000 different opinions. My vote goes for Lukester.

Who cares if people posted their own cares. Why can't someone take pride in a car that in all honesty might get lost in the shuffle with the sheer quanity of cars on the HAMB. I must have missed something in the rule book someplace. Hey, I nominate your car wayfarer...I had forgotten about it and you should be proud, so add it to the list.
I hereby nominate myself for the HAMB Ladyslayer of the Year, shit, make that the decade.
I honestly can't vote for any one car, they're all noteworthy accomplishments. However if you put a gun to my head, I'd have to say Cleatus' Sled.

12-24-2003, 01:31 PM
I looked this post over pretty thoroughly, and I think it's too tough for us to pick just one. I mean, the whole "awards" mentality is kinda anti-HAMB to me. I don't want to single out any one HAMB car over any other. I dig em' all for many different reasons; none more important or significant or personal than any other. It's hard enough for me to look at a rod, then a custom, and choose one over the other. They both make statements, however different, and I don't have a preference. Am I pussing out by not "voting"? Maybe, but since these cars weren't built to win awards, I don't want to judge them. I think the "award" should go to the HAMBer who did the most to further the cause this year. As much as I dig the cars, I think it's the people that make the HAMB.
Think about it. Do we really want to start judging HAMB rides against each other, and say one is better than the others?

Taking Von Tingler's idea one step further. He says he is not sure we should vote on the best car so lets vote on whether we should vote on the best car. Hell, lets be real democratic and vote on whether we should vote on whether we should vote to decide on whether we should.........where was I going with this. Excuse me, I think I need to sit and rest my head. By the way, they are all great. It's a tie.

B&SChevelle, the engine in the modified is a 53 215 Ford, same family as the later 223 which is more common.
BTW, I am replacing that six with a 60 Olds 394 this winter, and will be giving away that engine and trans to a needy HAMB'er soon. It runs and drives (with the POS-O-Matic trans connected to it), but the engine is pretty worn out. It's free, can't beat that.

I say we vote, HAMBers should be mature enough not to cast hard feelings if their car doesnt win.
VonTingler this indeed is a conundrum, because unlike our brethren in the outside world we really do appreciate each other's accomplishments. I wish the rest of the world was more HAMBlike.
You know what, in all truthfullness most of the folks on the HAMB are pretty much ego free and they do what they do without the spectre of recognition over their heads.
If'n you do what you do for the love of it, then you're all winners.
That includes blokes who like to scratch their behinds until they smile. That's me in a nutshell.

That's kinda what I was trying to say. What's to say you can't paint a shirt and send it to the guy who built the car you like the most. Not that it's a requirement, obviously. I just think that out of the blue ways to show appreciation are neater than official, organized, ways. It's a very generous idea you had to do it in the first place and I'm glad to see more pics of these cars.
Besides, there are too many kick ass cars being built every year on this board to pick just one.
Or, if you have kid's, have them pick the one they like the most.
this way your not behind the eight-ball to "choose" between so many bad ride's, the kid's participate, and a lucky winner gets a kick ass shirt!!!
this way it's just for fun.
not tryin to make more work for ya man...but you are good at them things!!

Rod & Custom
The smoothest Custom here in my book is Cleatus'.
The best Hot Rod that can dish it out and take no prisoners and look like a life sized hotwheel is EvilFordCoupe.

I just realized my shit qualifies since I got it on the road this year as a redo. I already voted ..no vote.. so I don't feel guilty, but I would like to include it with the other fine rides as a H.A.M.B. member.

Reading through this post just makes you realize how many KILLER cars were built this year, WOW.
Hot Rods, Customs, Drag cars, all of them Boss!
I'll always remember 03 as the year of the Drag cars. With the BFD, Digger Killer, and Dragon Fly all inspiring others to build a car and go racing who knows what 04 holds. Can't wait to find out.

Thanks for the nominations Buzzard and Barnett, you folks are just too kind.
Im bustin my nominations into categories
Car that I wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley..The Evil Ford Coupe
Car that hits the nostalgia nail on the head and keeps on smackin.....Reggies coupe. I absolutely fell in love with that car in Temple.
Vintage precision and a hell of alot of fun category...Sandman's lil green roadster. That car is an absolute blast and the only thing newer than 1950 or so is the brake drums.

Thanks Crease, but the truth is, when ever we role someplace they all ask if you wana sell yours.
I was at the Day of the Drags and got to see Evilfordcoupe pull his rig off the trailer and I swear it was angry, pissed, and wanted to kick some ass. The crowed all backed up a few feet! Now that is what a hot rod is supposed to do.
My vote is for Evilfordcoupe, and Crease's 33.
This post makes me want to go build something. Thanks, I love this stuff!

Thanks to everybody that said nice things about my Roadster.
I was going to take it off the list as soon as the voting would start, and since that does not seem to happen, I'll do it now.
Truth is, It has been on the road a couple of months to long to qualify for this list. ( I drove it to the last 2 GG shows in Scotsdale ).
I would have liked a shot at the Von Tingler Original, but not by cheating.
( So I may have to buy one now...)

Suggestion:
How about just having a list of 'completed' cars/trucks etc for the year?
That way we couls all review the accomplishments of our 'bretheren' from the year?

I think this post(which started out as a good thought)has degenerated to the point that it reminds me of the scene in the movie,"It's a Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World" where the characters are parked beside the road trying to figure out which way to divide up the money they're going to get.
This is one of those scenarios where the old adage,"be careful what you wish for"seems to scream out.
I think(there I go ;working without equipment again!)we should let this thread die an honorable death and continue to appreciate each others cars the way we have been doing right along.Life is WAY too complicated as it is.JMHO

I agree with Safari... How can you really judge all these vehicles when each one is created with a different theme.
I for one like all these vehicles and every one of them for its specific creative approach. It's not fair to judge these as a popularity contest... Now posting pics of this years newly built, as suggested, is a great idea.
