I have been in contact with Bob now ever since I bought the "infamous" binder catalog from him. Promises of "it's coming out real soon" is always the answer. I called and spoke to a general manager who I asked not to give me anymore bs but the straight scoop about when we would get our supplements. He said that quite frankly they probably would never be completed in the fore seeable future. I asked if they were going to announce that and he said "probably not". Asked if they were going to give our money back, he said "only if asked for". I asked for a refund and just got my check in the mail today. They had my purchase on record in their computer so I didn't have to prove my purchase. Go for it.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND THE BEST OF THE NEW YEAR TO EACH OF YOU.

Thanks for the heads-up. I was going to order a couple of '34 grilles. I have a quarter-full binder as well. Most of the time the items I do order end up being back ordered and never filled. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gifI have had better success with Carpenter and Baxter Ford Parts.

To me , Bob Drake is like the KING of early Ford Reproductions , and if he is in $$$trouble ( Read: Sales goin`DOWN!! ) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif , we might be seeing the beginning of the end of this O-SO-COOL hobby of ours http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Thanx. Just read your message on FORDBARN. Hope DRAKE is not in financial trouble. Gosh, I remember about 10 years ago he had a catalog as thick as a phone book!

I hope they are Ok - I dont like their policies but wouldnt wish them any trouble either- [I DONT BELIEVE FOR A MINUTE HES IN ANY MONEY TROUBLE.] My experience with them is limited to my own and [for] customers orders over a few years.....My only real complaint with them is that you can buy a COUPLE thousand dollars in parts from them and they will not throw in that on fucjkin .005 TENTHS OF A cent screw or clip to make the parts "ready to install"! you must then go back and re order and pay poatage or ups on a part that cound not weigh as much as a fleas dick. In my opinion they could have more empathy for our plight as their customers.....last time I called them I wondered how the inside groove on their headlite trim bezels for a 40 deluxe were supposed to mount to the headlite bucket....I called their tech guy and I was made to feel like a fool....."it just hooks over the tab -into a groove in the trim ring".well needless to say it did not work at all. I had the original 40 bucket and their rings, so something was fucked up. I ended up having to add a small peice to the "tab' on bucket to get it to stay put- AND GUESS WHAT? those trims DIDNT INCLUDE THE FRIGGN PHILLIPS SCREW TO ATTACH THE DAMNED THINGS.[suprise......suprise] also they are willing to give you a low buck deal on their new 34 ford grilles........2400 dollars........arent they nice folks?Yes - [in a nut shell] I like bob Drake.

I buy parts from Bob Drake and he has thrown in some freebies and even a t-shirt! I see Bob at the Portland swap meet every year and he looks like he is doing well to me.

I have ordered stuff in the past and have never had a problem except fot the '37 taillight brackets. Ordered them 3 times and were on back order and canceled 3 times. Anyone else know where I can get them?
I like Drakes parts, quality stuff.
Customer service is good one time and leaving me wondering the next.
Ordered a set of 32 rear axle bump stops.
Took one year to get them cuz they were in the catalog before they were available.
Then they only sent one.
They were good about sending the other though.
Then a few orders with no probs.
Last order, I got a set of 41 Ford hubcaps.
I specifically asked if they would fit the wheels I had.
They said yes.
I ordered, got a very nice set of caps.
And of course they didn't fit.
I returned them and they deducted the freight charge from the credit.
Their fault, they should have paid the return freight.
Not sure if I'm gonna order from them again or not.
Probably will, but I'll see if I can find what I want somewhere else first.
These places ought to learn it's all about customer service.
An occasional monitoring of their sometimes snotty employees might open their eyes.
Drakes employees have been ok, but other places have left me wondering ... and not ordering....
Dependable places with pleasant people that I've been dealing with for quite a while:
Deuce Factory.
PAW.
Summit.
Jegs.

I'm thinking they must treat everyone the same. Like C9 I've had 2/3 orders go through just fine, no problems. Then I'll order something and it takes forever. I've been lucky, I've never gotten anything that did not fit. Shouldn't have said that, the next order may be my turn. The one thing that's always set Drake apart for ME is that their stuff is right on the money reproduction wise. I appreciate a quality piece and can't remember being let down by them.
The binder catalog is another matter. It sounded like such a good idea when it came out but it sure fell on its face. I can't understand why, the concept just makes sense. Like others I hope there isn't any TROUBLE IN RIVER CITY for Drake, it would be a shame to see him go down the tube.

I saw where he is woriking on manufacturing an all steel '40 Ford, so if he has $$ for those size dies, I wouldn't worry about his financial health.

Glad Drake's finally doing something about this catalog mess. BUT, he ought to be sending the refunds out to everyone that ordered the **mn things instead of just those that request their money back!
I had good luck with Drake years ago, everything I ordered for my '40 was great quality. But things seem to have fallen apart over the last 10 yrs or so. Last time I tried to order something they couldn't even tell me if they had it in stock or not; pretty Mikey Mouse in the day and age of computers. And no catalogs available (this was prior to the subscription scam). Needless to say, they've lost me as a customer.
Don't have any ill will toward Drake, but they need to treat their customers a little better if they expect to stay in business.
