What is the correct setting for band adjustment on a '63?
If I wanted to change the tailshaft from a the '63 tranny to a '65 power glide what all would be invoved?...Simple housing and shaft change or a complete teardown?
Bye the way new filter/oil change already done and new modulator valve too but did not fix the problem.
My neighbor just stopped over and asked if I had a torque wrench so he can adjust his bands on his '63 Impala with a powerslide. He was holding a Chilton's book for a '69 Camaro in his hand. It said to torque the band down to 70 inch/pounds. When we did my dad's '64 Imp I didn't think that this was the numbers we used so I called my old man and he says that his Motors manual says 62-63 are different.
The reason for the tailshaft question is he thinks his 63 tranny is shot 'cuz it slips in high gear when cold, once warmed up it is fine. He has a P/G from a '65 Big Block Impala left over from his last car and the '65 has a longer tailshaft than the '63. He is thinking about putting the '65 glide in and cutting about 1 1/2" from his driveshaft. Seems like alot of work for nothing.
Thanks,
Curly
