Anybody else in CA feel the quake about 15 minutes ago? My heart is still racing!

I heard it was a 6.5 and centered about 60 miles north of here, around Hearst Castle.

Just knocked a bunch of books off of the shelfs in my office.

It will be interesting to see if anything fell in my shop. I guess I will see tonight.

I went drinking on saturday night and just had some spinning flashbacks. I was watching my jacket swing back and forth for about 30 or so seconds here at work in Sherman Oaks. That was a pretty long tremor. Good fun as long as no one is hurt. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I usually have a hair-trigger for such things, but I missed this one... hallway outside my cube has cardboard for flooring, or something, everything shakes around here, so i didn't notice it as a quake...

25 miles away from Paso Robles, it was...

My wife didn't even feel it.

I felt the San Francisco quake here in Idaho 2 ways.
I took off work to watch the world series that was postponed.
I Found out later that some parts I ordered got squashed in a truck on the freeway collapse. Lucky for me they were repop parts. I heard the driver was OK.

I'm with you!

I have a friend that came from Cal. He's scared shitless of a thunder storm, but said the ground moving don't bother him. Hell he's strange to me anyway, he'll go out in the the yard and grab up a rattle snake, but runs like hell from a June bug, go figure that out.

Neal, I didn't feel anything up here in SF Bay Area.

BTW for those that don't live in (usual) earthquake country, no matter where you live there is some form of natural disasters that you have to deal with. Out here on the left coast we just accept that earthquakes happen. I think what scares middle and east coast types is that an earthquake does not give any notice, it just happens.

i felt it... looks like paso saw some damage...

NealinCA

I talked to a few people. Lots of damage, but luckily no injuries yet.

An historic brick building in downtown Paso is a complete loss.

I heard a building in Atascadero fell also, not confirmed.

A friend who restores old M/C's had 3 bikes fall off of stands. One fell on his wifes recently restored 55 T-Bird.

My wife just went home, the inside of our house is filled with broken glass. Most everything came off of the walls, shelves, and a few cabinets. Water on the floors from the toilets and fish tank.

My brother looked in my shop. A bunch of stuff fell over, but the only damage he saw was a Chrysler Hemi crank fell onto a stack of some cool old hubcaps, but it missed my GMC fender luckily.

I guess I get to clean up tonite.

I'm just north of San Francisco and we felt it. Hope that brick building in Paso wasn't the old hotel. I heard it was centered in Paso.

No, I haven't heard about the PR Inn, but the building that fell was Pan Jewelers. It was the one with the clock-tower accross from the park.

It looked like this...

Damn, thats a sizable quake, thats one thing we share with California, they don't call us the shakey isles for nothing.
Hope everyone's o.k.
Last one I had anything to do with was in the midle of the night in a hotel on the way back from this years Palmy swap meet, damn thing woke me up but it wasn't till the morning I found out what it was (same thing happened when I was a kid) far enough away to do no damage but enough to triger the "radar" and wake me.

Neal glad to hear your ok, I thought about you when this thing hit. We felt it in a big way on the Monterey Peninsula, this is a sucky way to start Christmas. I heard three are known to be dead at this time, I hope that number does not get larger. It really sucks that downtown Paso was hit as it is a really cool place, I remember Santa Cruz after Loma Prieta and how it changed the downtown. Hope evryone lese from the Central Coast on the HAMB is OK. Ted

Now, I slept thru half of the Northridge one, thats how minor it felt compared to Loma Prieta, THAT fugger was the biggest scariest one I've ever had anything to do with, and I was 60+ (?, Walnut Creek) miles from the epicenter...

Very little damage here at home, but I did go downtown to the park after coming home from work in SLO. No power, nothing better to do than gawk in the park. Sure hits home when you see it up close. Knowing that people have to be under all the debris. Didn't stay very long. The landscape will be a little different around the park. Mainly just one building complex and the rest looks to be superfical. There was damage to the Paso Inn. Saw a car that was under bricks that look to be from a chimney from the Inn.

Lots of stuff like that around town.

What a bummer! I went to Paso for the first time last May and you can't help but fall in love with the town. It has a great old time feel to it and the place is spotless. I took a picture of a kustom as it was passing Pan Jewelers--what a kool looking building! Sad it is now history.

Hope all you Hambers out in that area are A-OK. Paso will definitely be different this year.

Damn this sucks.................................E

it was definetely an odd experience for me... most earthquakes Ive felt were over by the time I realized what it was.. this one felt like it lasted a good 30 to 45 seconds.. and I was about 100 miles or so from the epicenter.

anways, glad everyone (for the most part) is OK... and hopefully 3 fatalities will be all that there are!!

I felt it at work all the way down here in Lancaster. I was really surprised that it was so far away. It was a long one.. no rumble sounds, but a weird swaying back and forth. I get motion sick, and it gave me a friggin migrain that hasn't gone away yet...

most the people I talked to here in lancaster didnt feel it but I thought I was tripping when I felt it down in valencia, The ground was swaying different then the car I was working on a foot off the ground. by the looks of that damage I think we got off easy, I knew I shouldnt have kept talking about the great weather yesterday, it jinx us.

Hey CalifCarl,

Glad to hear yer O.K.

We're down here in Littlerock next to Lancaster ... didn't feel a thing... But then again I think I was drivin' around when it hit.

Do you know Harry?
Known 'em for awhile now...Can't think of the last name.. He gotta real nice Buick.. Lives on the edge of town. We crash at his place during the show. Anyway just wonderin' how he's doin' hope he's A.O.K.

The deal doesn't look good on T.V. They said over 80 buildings we're pretty messed up and you guys have had had like over 50 aftershocks. Damn sorta wondering' if Penny and Rich are gonna be able to put on this years Memorial Day show.

Is there any kind of Relief deal being put together or does the city have that covered?

They have only shown Paso on T.V.

Would like to know' bout some of the other small towns and villages around the area like Solvang. How did they fair?

CalifCarl

I have to say things are bad, but maybe more hype than not. The 80 some building are closed until they have been inspected. Damage to them maybe just minor, but being closed for precaustion. Hey Arnold! Should be in town now, I always knew he would be back!

I don't know Harry. I'm sure the shows will go on. Just got hit with an aftershock. Biggest one since the first! About a 8 to 10 second shake. Small but real.

Moldy
12-23-2003, 06:19 PM
Well this next year's show will be interesting to say the least.

I called a friend and gawt Harry's fone number... He didn't know his last name either... Just Harry...

He's gawt one of the biggest kustom model and di cast collection I've ever seen. Most of the stuff he built and kustomized himself..
Some pretty kewl never seen before stuff.. His house is cover from floor to ceiling in the things... I was a little concerned that he
might be buried in it...and as I understand he had quite a mess to pick up..

Anyway you all take care and hang on.

And if there is any thing that is needed up that way let us know...
