What years did buick use the aluminum drums on their cars. Also will they work with 48 and up ford P/U backing plates and 46 ford car spindles and hubs? I don't have anything but the spindles and hubs yet but have a line on some of the other parts. Thanks and excuse my ignorance. Mike
Some 1957 to 1970. You want early kind probably (45 fins) so you're search narrows to 1958-1965

Mp33, without having any 1st person experience, I'd first try the hubs on ths spindles. Then, slide the drums over the hubs, after having removed the wheel studs. I'm assuming you have the early ford backing plates bolted to the early ford spindles, right?
Ok, do the drums clear the backing plates?

The 48 up F-1 B/plates are 11" and won't work with the 12" Buicks...But The 48 up F-2 3/4 ton B/plates are 12" and work well. Most of the guys use the F-1 w/cyls on the F-2 B/plates and shoes with the Buick drums. There are several ways to adapt the Buick drums to the the 46 hubs you have. Rocky,I have 46 hubs on 46 spindles( both car stuff). I don't have any backing plates or Buick drums yet(except the stock B/plates and drums from the 46 car). I was just wondering what parts to look for to get Buick drums and bendex brakes to work on the hubs and spindles I have. Thanks, Mike

Tommy, Did he use that bushing in the bearing so he could turn the hub down in the lathe? other then that it seems pretty well straight forward. Mike

I did mine on a brake lathe using the lathe fixtures for the bearing races.
Don't forget to turn the drums after the Ford hubs are added. That will true the braking surface to the bearings in case they aren't perfect. It was standard practice when replacement drums were rehubbed. Even new drums can be off from storage and shipping.
