I have seen some of these in old Custom mags.
Are these a bolt on item?

I don't know the answer but I've got two sets of '56 Olds sitting right here if you wanna give it a shot http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am thinking ya have to lengthen the frt fenders but I may take you up on that.

They're not a bolt on item. The easiest way to make them work is to get a couple of inches off of the Olds fender and the headlight bucket. Then weld that part of the Olds fender to the chevy fender.
The only difference between the 55 and 56 is the 56 has a peak on the top.
I put the 56 headlight rings on my 48. I used about ten inches of the Olds fender then beat the peak into the fender.

Thanks Clark, that's what I was kinda afraid of.

Is there a bolt on chrome ring that has a hooded look to it?

There are lots of aftermarket headlight rings and I think the 50's Willys cars had them.
Even though it is a good amount of work it makes a big difference. I was going to do the 55 Olds rings until i found the 56 fenders and rings. The 55's woulldn't be too bad to fabricate.

Here's a pic of the 56 on my 48. It's hard to see but the fender it peaked back to the end of the scallop.
If you do it let me know. I can show you where I cut mine and mated the two together. I ruined one 48 fender to get it right.

the fenders i used for donors were 56, with the subtle peak, not like sowhats, but i did pretty much the same thing, i cut the olds just under the headlightcurving up towards the top almost to the end of the peak, probably 3 feet long, just to get the peak included(only a few inches high at the rearmost part), what i did, not the reccommended way, was to just slip the olds fender right over the chevy fender, and tack it good, once it was attached, i used a cut off wheel to remove the excess chevy fender from the inside. the fit is very close, a little hammer work around the bottom of the bucket and thats about it.

Root, go to my web site and look at my '50 Chevy. I have '55 Buick rims on mine and they are pretty much a bolt on. I'm not going to using them now, let me know if you're interested.

That's what '56 Olds 4 door sedans are good for.
They have that peak the way Radshit did them on FONZI's car is the way to get them to look right and be at the right height etc.
Worth the fenders, off a sedan anyway.

(I've only owned two '55 Olds and learned to drive in a '53)
