A-bone rear suspension ?????

Ok guys I know this topic has probably been beaten to death but here it goes.
My project;
31 Model A tudor
4" channel
6"Z'd frame
Ford 9" w/spring over axle stock model A type setup
V8(of some sort)
and a muncie
The thing I want to know is, can I run split to the frame 35-36 radius rods safely in the back or should I go with some other setup? Or should I run the 35-36 rods and only split them apart enough to clear the trans? I've seen some talk on here about 3 and 4 links but I would like to have split radius rods for the look if at all possible. Would like some imput and pics if possible. Thanks, Mike

I wouldn't split them all the way to the frame. You will want to reinforce them just ahead of the rearend housing any way you go. Good Luck, dug

I looked but no I don't have a good picture. It attaches exactly like it does on a stock '36 rear end with the 3/8" plates that surround the housing.

It looks like if that same crossmember was moved to the rear a few inches and a mount off the front of it supported the tranny, then the trans could be dropped for service instead of having to yank the motor. Just my 2 cents.

cougdan, You're absolutely right. That's the way I did it on my roadster but after final assembly I found that I still had to remove the whole thing anyway because of firewall clearance. If the car can be designed to allow the trans to come out the back I'd definately go that route. Some guys have a removeable center portion built into the crossmember for that purpose.
