I set up a new user name as my not-so-original one was pretty damn close to the handle of one of the vets on the site. Gee, losing my 3 post rating is such an injustice...
Here's a re-hash of what I posted in case anyone wants the scoop on who the heck I am. I may post an update on the regular board and would like to hear from the local flatheader contingent if only to get the ol' F-you. Hopefully I can contribute from my own experiences.
----------------
Stats on ride: ’32 Ford pickup. Body all orig except for cheap steel grille shell. Pickup originally bought by my Dad in the Sixties, from somewhere between T.O. and Mammoth Mountain- location sworn to secrecy. Nope, not done with the fenders and hood yet- they’re in my garage where some folks say they should stay. Yep, it’s a driver. 276 cu in flattie, T-5 tranny, 9” rear from a ’68 Bronco. 40’s juice brakes and 4” drop axle up front, but I’m using the original spring with all leaves ‘cause the roads here suck- Lotsa $$$ in my Williamson county and they can’t fix the flippin’ roads. In back- coilovers and triangulated P&J 4-bar cause it rides good and you guessed it… the roads here suck. Vega type steering- cause it handles quick for dodging soccer moms and drunken rednecks. If you’ve ever driven through here, you know what I mean- duck and cover. Motor has old Edelbrock SU-359 3x2 intake with progressive link on 97’s, factory relieved block, Offy heads, and a cam that’s pretty much a beefed-up Winfield SU-1A with slightly more lift and duration but same overlap. Got lucky and found some original Fenton headers. Converted generator to 12V neg ground, running a Mallory electronic distributor. Yes Virginia, there is a Mallory electronic that works.
Stop reading now and save yourself from death by boredom…
Too late hoss! Like my ride, I am originally from SoCal but have lived in Mid Tennessee near Nashville for a few years. Think Beverly Hillbillies in reverse. Life in general and especially the people (except for driver types mentioned above) are awesome in Mid TN, but don’t tell anyone- they’ll all start moving here and screw it up worse than I did. Like Oregon, we have our share of SoCal ex-pats. If you do come here, there is one thing you must never forget: don’t believe the guy that says when the moonshine burns clear blue it’s really smooth and you won’t get a hangover. As an idiot newbie to Tennessee I believed that bullshit and of course the next morning I sold more Buicks than Tiger Woods.
When I’m not thrashing the pickup I’m in a martial arts studio because it’s about peace, harmony, and flogging 20-somethings until they’re as old and ugly as I am. Hey, how old are you? Just kidding…
Great board- lots of knowledge. Hope sometime I can help someone out based on my limited experience.
Come grab a seat in the garage, have a cold brew, and let me tell you a story about my Rottweiler, a metal detector, and the neighbor lady’s missing gold cross.
There you go- If you’re not already asleep just try to read it again.
