Are all 300 engines the same re: bellhousings? I got a chance to get one for my truck I have a c-4 trans in it, will it bolt up. Not sure of eng year.
300s share the sbf 289/302 bolt pattern any v8 c4 should work, just not the small six 144/170/200 tranys. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
240 and 300 use the same bell as the small block V8. The crank is also the same V8 bolt pattern, but the 300 flywheels are neutral balanced. Pilot bushing hole in the crank register is the same. RWD 3.8 liter V6's are the same pattern and are a good source for AOD transmissions. The 94-04 Mustang V6 T-5 is a bolt on if you use the Mustang bell, but the shifter is pretty far back for most sedans and trucks. The ford 250 is also the same pattern as the v8 and 300, but the 144-170-200 are different and do not interchange.
I'm having problems bleeding the hyd. clutch cylander,,it went completly dry while in storage. Do I keep pumping, holding pedal, opening the bleeder, until all the air is out,, like a brake system, or is there a trick to this ????? Thanks, I'm out in the middle of the desert or I would have someone to ask ! thanks again for any info.
Oh Man !!!! somebody at Holsum Bread moved the clutch master cyl. up under the lip of the dash,,,,,,I was bleeding the brakes the whole time !!! Got it done now and everything is working fine. Now I can get outa here and make it back to the shack for the night ! thanks enywho !!
The last couple years of 200 ('80-81 for sure, maybe '79?) had a bastard pattern that was 4/6 of a 6-bolt SBF bell pattern and you can get 5 bolts of the 6 to fit with a little attention with a drill.
Go to fordsix preformance.com do a search, any thing you want to know is there. I've been runing a 300 for the last 20 years in my 55 f-100. Had a c4AOD installed this Fall, geting 19+ mpg under 70 mph. Fun
Whether your C4 will bolt up to the 300 six may depend on what year you C4 is from. As I recall, C4's were introduced in '64 and early small block Fords used a 5 bolt bellhousing pattern. Later versions, starting late '64 or early '65 went to a 6 bolt pattern. If your trans has 6 bolts, your good for 300 six. However, even if it's 5 bolt, I 'think' you can swap the bellhousing on the trans for a 6 bolt style. Ray
There are two type bells to add to the confusion, large , used mostly in trucks, early broncos, vans and some wagons that didn't get the FMX or baby C-6. The small bell was mostly for Mustangs,Comets, Falcoons.
