Getting a cam reground?

Does Schneider still regrind cams, are there other grinders still doing this? Do they harden the cams after ward, or not? Is this a decent idea if I have something that performance cams aren't around or just plain expensive.

I had one reground by Reed cams as they are in my town, Atlanta. It was only $40 or $50.

They grind them to just about any spec? I want the cam in my Valient ground to the hyper pak specs(slant 6). I asume the cam must be in good shape with all the lobes there, anything else? Got any contact info for Isky and Reed?

Schneider does reground them...i called about my 215 six.he had a n.o.s one he said he would grind to specs for 75 bucks...might give them a jingle.

Remember. When buying a reground cam, especially when increased lift is involved. MAKE SURE to check your pushrod length.When they regrind cams the base circle is reduced to gain more lift.So check the pushrod length to make sue you dont have to much preload on your hyd lifters.If its a solid yer OK. Alot of times the grinder wont tell you so ya gotta buy new pushrods too.So for the price of a regrind and pushrods you could have bought a new one.---Feder

Yaeh I'm gonna check push rod length(it is a solid tappet motor)with and adjustable H-D one. i don't want too much lift as the head is getting decked .100" so I'll stay around .450-.460 range(hyper pak is 455 I think). Great Ball's O' fire, you goota number or is he in the book? Thanks.

I've used Schneider for a couple of reground cams in early chevy 6 cylinders.

never had any trouble. fast turn around.
