this is my latest "art project".
i'm shying away from calling it art b/c/ other than concept and design it took little of my artistic talent.
This idea has been rolling around in my head for about a year and a half. I spent most of that time looking for the right subject.
i finally found one about 3 months ago and my idea is now concrete.
i give you...

I know it's nothing near the quality of VonTingler, Brush or Barnett but they've inspired me to try something I haven't done since I was a kid, back when Roth was the "monster" god.
I did this on my computer.

100mph/....Depends on how much time I am given for each project and how much the budget is. Here is a breakdown on both techniques.
TRADITIONAL/ Do a sketch, then (I) use a linetek paper on a lightbox to trace your drawing in non-repro blue pencil on the linetek paper..just line
go to your drawing and ink it up. Then you need to send your ink drawing out to a stat house and get a clear acetate stat made (around$10.00)
Now you have a film of your inked linework and your drawing on the linetek paper...(kinda like a disney cell with no color....so far)
then with frisket and a steady hand, start masking and airbrushing the colors in the, desired areas. This a slow and tedious proceedure...take your time and it will work out. Also keep your clear acetate stat handy to check that your trapping your color properly.Be very careful when cutting the frisket on the lineteck that ya dont cut thru......or then ya start all over.
After you have finished all the airbrushing and blends, place the clear line stat over the colored paper and "voila".yer done.
I use many different brands of Awata brushes(air) and even the old cigar-shaped Paasche.I use liquitex acrlyics or any other proffesional commercial brand.
DIGITAL/ Some kats draw, ink and scan there work and paint in Photoshop....thats kool, but I never liked scanning...lose too much in your line work. I use a 18-12 Wacom drawing tablet and a program called Painter(corel) I draw completly on screen.....no muss,no fuss or deadly fumes and no toxic material whatsoever.I can replecate ANY traditional art tool available...and any texture(surface) as well
I know these descriptions are vague....hope it helps.

Sorry guys I messed up. Being not long to this site I posted a Friday art thing other than on this one. However Kustom builder has set me straight. So here is another piece I did for a friend a while back. It is a hand painted 'Who Daky' (that's what I sign my works and what people who know me and my work call my stuff!). Which I just added to on the comp to come up with a very simple get well card.
I am only a striper, can't draw or airbrush like you other very talented people. But I am a model maker and I see Gowjobs great model. Is it OK from time to time to show an image of some of my work in minature? OK that's for now http://photo.starblvd.net/~whodaky/2-3-3.jpg

Hey Kustoms & Rockets, really like the tudor; that aint the easiest body to work with! Here is a few shots of a slammer I didn't a few months ago. It is actually the 1/18th diecast muscle machine, less the muscle (tha hemi sticking out of the hood. I work in all scale of plastic, but in the last couple of years have been doing mainly 1/18th diecasts. I hope these models fit into the riday art concept. MMMm just remembered I have striped the hood and deck lid of this model. will post this and get the digital and get images of the striping! http://photo.starblvd.net/~whodaky/3-1-1.jpg http://photo.starblvd.net/~whodaky/3-1-2.jpg http://photo.starblvd.net/~whodaky/3-1-3.jpg

Tim glad you like the model. Hood and sides are made from aluminium. Swageline in hood top was built up using JB weld 2 part material. Wheels and front tires are from the the Road Signature 1/18th diecast stocker '32 3 window. The rear tires are from the Monogram 1/12th '57 Chev. Also a lot of finesing to get it all looking right. I am pleased with the results. Minimum of work (compared to other stuff I do) for maximum impact. The attached image shows the striping on the deck lid, sorry about the quality of the image http://photo.starblvd.net/~whodaky/3-1-4.jpg

I want to get in on the fun. I love the Friday art show.
I haven't thought about drawing a car in years- I'm an architect and do my drawing with the cad. I used to do a few renderings with a car or two in the parking lot for affect but nothing just for fun.
This one is just a little (2.5"x 4") pencil thumbnail of an idea I'm working on. No pic for reference, just imagination. Not NEARLY as nice as some of your pieces but I hope you like it.

Thanks for the kind words guys, they are appreciated.I too am blown away by the amount of talent on this board and not just the art side of it and the willingness to share with others.
The airbrush illustrations and the pencil sketches are my favorites but the photography gives me goosebumps sometimes. It's almost as if I were behind the lens and knew what they were thinking when they created the picture. The stories remind me a lot of my formative years of hanging around the older guys who were fooling with cars.I knew several of the people on the board when I joined and have since come to know many more personally and have yet to be disappointed.
And Mike you weren't supposed to let out the fact I've been around for more than 200 years! Those other immortals will be looking to take my head now(the"Highlander"series on TV)!
Anyway enough oration; It's Sunday afternoon and the winter solstice is in full bloom, the temps are in the 40's and I just got back from the paper store and the Daily Grind(a local coffee shop I haunt)with the Safari.Had to check it to make sure the new t'stat was working all right and all the air was out of the cooling system. The college radio station is playing '30's jazz and the heat is on in the garage so I guess I'll be there for the remainder of the day.
To all the folks on the board ,a happy holiday season in whichever way you choose(or don't)to celebrate it.

I paint them for people occasionally.Pricing depends on whether I have to spray them or not and how complicated they get but they run around 75 to 125 dollars. The sprayed ones are cleared with PPG 2021.I don't normally clear unsprayed ones as the 1-Shot is very durable.
I just removed the original one I did which had been sprayed with rattle cans and lettered but no clear. It had been up about 5 years and I had put one coat of wax on it awhile ago.A little polishing compound brought the gloss right back. The 1/43rd scale Safari on the top had turned from turquoise to blue and all the chrome was gone.
As far as worrying about putting them up I've never had a problem although the reason I put it up in the first place was some morons came along bashing boxes but they were caught.

I've seen him do several projects (including my '37 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif ) and I'm blown away each time how easy he makes it look and how quick he is. If you ever get the chance to see him work be sure to take advantage of it.
BTW Ray I'm gonna needs some lines on my ragtop this summer.

Now that is a TRULY beautiful piece of work! What did you use for the number? From the photo it looks to be flake but is it paint or what?Just out of curiosity how long did it take to cut in the flames?Did you use a ball mill?
I'm curious because I tried doing some etching on aluminum with an old style tool etcher and it didn't look too bad as long as I only had to make one pass.

Shortbus, you still kick butt....
Safariknut, honoured that you like my box, as your stuff is awesome. In answer to some of your questions, the grinding took about 1 1/2 hours.
Very easy to stuff up if you have a brain fade, as the grinding bit tends to want to 'walk', hence I found it best to just take a few light & slow strokes, and once the basic pattern is laid out, keep going over the lines a few times till yo reach the desired depth.
The cutting tip was the shape of a small cone with a small radius end.
Cheated on the 5, sticker cut on a metalflake base, with black pinstriped edge.
Cheers,
and happy christmas,

Safariknut, would you mind showing a picture of the hood of the Poncho on which the mailbox is placed? Looks like some serious art on there as well...
