I've got to give credit to the guys over at So-Cal... I was at their shop about two months before the SEMA show when the body showed up in its styrofoam mold... it was nothing more than a shell. They went from that stage to completely finished in about six weeks. Incredible. The chassis is built by their in-house racing Kiwi named Silky, and power does indeed come from a full-race Ecotech motor modified to drive the rear wheels. Speaking of the wheels, I hear that they were custom made out of aluminum and fitted with those wierd polyurethane tires to GM's spec for something in the six figure range. I don't know if that's what they're planning on running at the salt though.

I believe GM is trying to use land speed racing as a way to capture young people's imagination and draw them to the new Saturn RedLine, which uses a stock variant of this motor. This year So-Cal built and ran a highly modified RedLine at B-ville to over 200mph, and I think the "tank" will probably run next year.

Its not a P-38 can stuffed with a V860, but in my opinion its just as cool (or cooler). The engine itself is sort of a modern version of the Quad 4, with lots o' cams and valves, and they will even be making a crate motor version with a roots type blower mounted on the side.

I'm just happy GM is making an attempt to tap into the youth performance market... as wierd and mutated as their attempt may be.

As your typical "New American Car hater," I have to say that things a bit impressive.

I've driven 3 of those cars as rentals, and they do pretty well. Held up to a bunch of abuse, and only came close to overheating once. Even survived an un-authorized Mexico trip...

Fuel cuts out at 102 mph tho...
