hello-I bought a set of sombreros-they have a few dings anyone got any ideas on straightening them out? How deep a scratch can be buffed out? Please help....

Oh yeh ...about your dings and dents. I've gotten small dings out with a small peice of wood and a small hammer. Vey light taps!!!! As far as scratches start with something like 220 grit and work your way to a real fine grit before buffing.

You just didn't include any details like where you live, whatcha do for a living and some history and details about your coupe.. lastly, a photo of the car would be really helpful. Lotsa shubox ford fans and owners here. Including me. BTW, whats with the 928 name? Something to do with a certain V/8 water cooled Porsche? Just curious because my winter beater is a Blitz black 944 but it's not traditional and this board is for traditional hot rods and customs like your coupe..[whew!]

I have liked cars all my life..I always wanted a shoebox ford and finally came across one that I liked..My wife thinks it's a curse I call it a hobby I guess. I have a couple of other cars as well, 53 chevy and a 63 galaxie (both are in various stages of disassembly)

We're getting there. Now tap with a piece of wood,
I use an old hammer handle that I broke twenty years ago,
Use a blanket or sand bag on the outside to absorb the
energy so you won't go to far. Then when you get close take a fine file and smooth it out till the shiny spots are gone.
From there you can use a da with about 320 grit to remove the file marks. After that start wet sanding with 400 grit and work your way up to about 800 grit. When it looks pretty good polish it and the metal will tell you if your done or not. A jewelers wheel works the best but they sell
polish pads that go on your bench grinder at most hardware stores. jewelers rouge is what ya want to use for grit.
I hope this gives ya an idea where to start. Give it a go but be careful not to get to rambungtous and go to far
to fast.

Fab32..That's plain ol' gray primer. The car had about a 1/2" square of old dark blue paint on it when I got it and the rest was surface rust.
