I've got my MII pretty much setup but need to get a manual MII rack and pinion unit. The manual rack is just my preference

This is my first MII setup on my first project.

What companies have you found the best price and had the best experience with.

If I go to my local Autozone/O'reillys/pep boys/whatever... What year of Rack do I look for? I'd read once that using an '84 Tbird rack was the way to go but I don't remember why.

Try - a junkyard one out of a Pinto or MII.

I bought mine from speedway.

I got a power rack. the power racks from thunderbirds are supposed to have a better feel than the earlier racks.

I dont think that applies to manual racks.

years you should be looking for are 74-78 stang and up to 80 pinto.

I got one of mine from NAPA. And the other through Classic Performance Products in Buena Park, California. http://www.classicperform.com/

Jim at CPP is awesome. To tell you the truth it is my new favorite place to get chassis and brake stuff. These guys have actually saved me money by showing me cheaper ways to do the same modifications.

I got my manual MII rack from Speedway four years ago. Still works great, no problems, and they were the cheapest.

Search eBay for a PINTO rack. Most people only search for the MII unit and you can save big this way.

Just go down to Autozone. I bought a power rack there a few years ago and found their prices to be almost half those advertised in the major magazines of the time...

It's hard to beat the Flaming River ones for a NEW one.
Most auto parts ones are going to be rebuilt units.
Sounds like Vaphead is the BEST deal here for a new one.

Has anyone tried to shorten a MII rack?
