Some of you saw the covers for my graphic novel so I thought I'd post a few ROUGH pencil drawings. The finished product will inked and ALOT smoother and as true to the real deal as possible. The art is coming along.
Feed back on the artwork??? Thanks guys.

VERY cool stuff -- don't even know if it'd be affordable, but would you consider selling some of the pencil roughs when the finished product is done, or do they get inked over?

Steve.

WOW! My first 5 star post! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
The panels do get inked over but are FAR better by that stage.
Thanks guys for the input! Sounds like it'll be a winner.
Here's a primer for the story:

"BlackTop - concept

Palmdale, California - 1953

Just another small town trying to forget the last decade. Gripped by W.W II and now Korea is coming to a end, good times seems to be returning.
Something was different though. The innocence was gone. A new rebellious feeling was on the scene. Rock and roll was coming and being fought at every turn. Equal rights was the topic of the day.
The soft blue glow of television was in nearly every home. Every night, scenes of war and crime came into the living rooms of America. "Better dead than red" was shouted in Congress and the car culture was in it's infancy.
The highways were opening up and gas was cheap. America was on the move like never before.
Anybody could have a car and most did, but to have something unique was the deal. Something faster and louder than everyone else. For no one else was this more important than the teenagers of the day.
On these early highways, backroads and drylakes is where the rebel culture was born and raised. Along with it came the elements of a dangerous lifestyle. The very lifestyle the political and religious leaders feared.
Gangs, drugs, and booze all took root and flourished with many youth. Danger was exciting and new.
This the real story. A story of wicked cars and illegal races. Chain gangs and murder. Drugs and sex. Life, death and cold reality.
A chapter of out of history that was never written in the books. It wasn't all poodle skirts and saddle shoes.

This is Blacktop.

Where life and death are only seperated by a gas pedal and a thin yellow line."
And two more panels in the opening squence.

We're gunnin' for next summer but it's up to the publisher who is in France. We couldn't find a publisher here in North America...still not sure why. It will be three issues, each 50 pages long in B&W. I'll keep you posted. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

WOW! See, this is the kind of fiction - and of graphic art fiction - that is the hardest for me to find. What publishing company are you doing it through? Man, that looks great! Nice work. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

WOW!! GREAT WORK!!
Almost a shame to ink those. Great portraiture and control of scale and perspective.
And that architecture in the distant backgrounds! Can't believe the detail you can set out in a single line....(SOME drafting)!
At least the French have a bit of a tradition of realistic cars in their "comics". Your stuff looks at least as good as their best.

Very nice work.

Regarding publishers, have you approached Dan Vado of Slave Labor / Amaze Ink? They are generally receptive to offbeat and unproven work. Tell 'em Don Haring says "hi" ... not sure if that will help or hurt your chances. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We have gone thru most of the of the publishers out there. The trouble is, and I hate to say it, that North American publishers can't afford to pay. Some really great people just no money behind them. This is what we do for a living. I even offered up a few pages a month for a few print car mags and they said no.
But this responce is what we were looking for!!! AWESOME! This is GREAT! We needed an ego boost! We were getting alittle bummed out...
This book is for people like us written by one of us.
I think I should clear this up the fact before it gets outta hand that I'm not the artist. You guys have seen my drawings on Fridays! LOL
I wrote it, researched it, and guided the artist in the renderings and details.
I needed it to be as real as possible. He did the rest. His name is Igor Kordey. Go check out his regular art: http://kordey.ca
The guy is a genius when it comes the art. He can do ANYTHING!
And I will keep the HAMBers posted! And everybody here will get first crack when they hit the shelf. Thanks again!
Please keep it coming! You guys rock!
