Steering wheel interchange? Spline charts??

Just doing a little surfing after KustomD posted the question about the steering wheel (Caddy) not matching up sline wise on his later column.
Is there any reference on the web for such an interchange?

I know Mullins, Flaming River etc. do have one but it is for the coupling end.

Just curious. That would be of great interest to a lot of people. Maybe I'll call Grant?

Good question.
I know prewar Fords use a large taper and keyway,and won't directly fit anything else.
They switched to splines after the war,not sure when.

Are all the latemodels the same now?

I think most of the GM stuff from the '40's through the sixties will interchange...even later than that. I had a '49 truck that had a chevette wheel on the stock column when I bought it...

Take a look at a Grant book and see if the two you are looking at take the same adapter. I think each of the major manufacturers held their same splines from post WWII until they went metric in late '80's.

Here is the reply from Grant.

Well, I guess the long and short answer is no. There is no
interchangeability chart.

About the only thing that might pass for one is our application listing,
but it won't be 100% correct as our hubs have a little more universality
in them than many of the OEM wheels. We do not make a kit for the 1957
Caddy, sorry. Don't know of anyone who does either; the shaft was
indeed different and we just don't have it available.
