Flathead fan

I am working on a 48 Ford woody right now, one of the things I am doing is intalling an electronic Mallory ignition on it. it is a two bolt distributor with a crab style cap. The fan belt hits the cap right where the wires come out, so it isn't going to work with the stock fan setup this way. Is there a different style cap that will fit the Mallory distributor? Is there a stock fan that will clear? 1941 maybe? I would hate to use an electric fan on this.

Double pulley on the generator and run the fan belt from the top? Just a thought.

I do not know if an older fan may work for you, but you could probably rig up a tensioner using some correct width pulleys out a junk yard. In fact, check out JC Whitney, I know I have seen adjustable tensioners in their catalogs in the past.
I have a 46 ford which should have the same fan pulley dimensions as your 48 but if you need some measurements let me know.

Doesnt Mallory have optional caps for that dizzy?
Im not into that setup but remember the issue coming up before.

Grimlok; I had the same thought, got to get the gen back from the rebuilder to try it.

Fungus; I am looking into this too.

286merc; I don't know if the same cap that fits the regular Mallory will fit this too. I did think of a spacer under the cap and spacing the rotor out too to clear the belt.

Supposedly this distributor works with a 41 fan, but I don't have an example to compare.

The '41 fan mounted directly to the crank hub, and would be very badly placed even if it would fit. Upgrade to a regular 21A or 59A distributor.
