I just found a box full of 8mm drag racing films at Dad's house.

Included are Amarillo, TX. Green Valley, TX 1969, San Fernando,CA 1965, Green Valley,TX.1969, Roswell, NM 1967, Green Valley, TX 1964. A few others not marked.

I have a couple of questions for the video editing types.

If I convert this to video, will it be too distorted to eventually add to a web page?

I thought if I could find some good clips maybe I could add em at a later date to the new website?

How would I convert em again? Or should I have them converted straight to a format designed for the web?

Thanks...it's all in the name of DRAG RACING. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I work at a place that takes them straight to DVD. I would do them for the cost of a copy http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Once onto DVD they can be put on the web with editing software. Give me a growl if youre interested.

Roothawg, sounds like Spike has you covered.

I've got a two tape set called "Blast From the Past" that is compiled of a clubs 8mm films from that period and those same tracks. I think they were the Abilene Elimators.
They have a page with a link to the nostalgia video...

What they did was get some of the former track operators together and narrated the tapes. The films are kinda rough in places but they sure are entertaining. They might be worth getting some advice from.

Whatever you do, I'd sure like to get a copy. I was a 9 year old kiddo living in Roswell in '67. I'd probably remember some of the cars and owners that were buddies of my dad at the time.

Keep me posted and good luck.

That's great! I still have 3 big reels of 8mm stuff I found at my dad's when he died last December. I haven't even looked at it yet but I'm sure it's all construction shots of the pacific N.W. in the 50's & 60's.
Conversly, I have some totally wonderful drag race V.H.S. video of local drag racing in the early 50's. It was on 8 mm and my buddy and I simply shined the projector on the wall in his house and used a common video camera to capture the images.. The down side is, he insisted on playing 60's surf music during the taping...

So what's wrong with surf music? There's no sound on the 8mm. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
